In this episode I start thinking about the plank fastenings for Tally Ho. Using copper rivets is the strongest and most authentic choice, but they are not available to buy in the size I need. Just as I am trying to work out the smartest way to make the rivets, we receive a mysterious box in the mail, from a fan. Amazingly, someone has custom-fabricated a machine for making copper rivets out of round bar! We also work on making all the patterns for the hanging knees, which will be cast in Bronze at PT Foundry. Matt and David join the team, and get stuck into grinding bronze, and Rosie gets into her stride laminating the patterns. Je souhaitais revenir sur les événements météorologiques/climatiques du 18 Aout en Corse, il y a 3 jours au moment ou je fait cette video, où nous nous sommes retrouvés à affronter des vents d’une violence inouïe (225km/h) à environ 20 Nautiques (un peu moins de 40km) au large de Cargèse sur un voilier de 12,5m. Je partage en toute sincérité notre expérience, ce que nous avons vécu, les décisions prises, le contexte, les erreurs, … Que cela soit clair, je ne me pose pas en donneur de leçon, ni même en donneur de conseils. In 1996 there were no recycle options at the destination, it would have been piled in a land fill, burned or dumped in the sea. Better put metal cans on 4000 meters depth, could even serve as home for biological life as it slowly degrades into its original state. All plastic was taken ashore and probably burned by the authorities. And to get some perspective: what would be the environmental impact of flying across the Atlantic instead of sailing? Here another example of iron being sunk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XavoiJxK0ck You could also compare your own impact on environment. https://www.klimatkalkylatorn.se/ So if you care about environment ...here are some better questions to ask me: 1) Why did you build a boat out of oil and only used it for 7 years? 2) Why did you fly home from the first leg of your journey? 3) Why did you pull your boat with a car for so many miles? 4) All that equipment and stuff you bring along are all based on the oil industry for their building and transporting - why do you use this stuff? Sometimes sailing just 30 miles out of the way can lead to a completely new, unexpected experience. The last stretch of our epic 3000NM passage from South Africa to La Reunion. Sadly we get struck with another equipment failure when our Satellite phone catches on fire, and we lose all means of communication with the outside world :/ Totally scary! But luckily the weather finally started to calm down from 40-50kn to only about 25-30kn! :D This made us all feel a little bit more human, Karin started baking, Brian started fixing some of our broken systems and we even caught our first fish! A lot of people have been asking us to put together a tour of our Nordhavn 40. The Nordhavns are very unique boats and are often described as Trawler Yachts or “Passagemakers”. Regardless of what you call it, the Nordhavn 40 is a super capable boat and has taken us all the way from Northern California to Alaska and back down the entire west coast of the US to Southern California so far. We thought about just carrying a camera through the boat and posting something 5 minutes long, but decided to put a little more effort into it and before long we had over an hour of footage to sort through. There are a lot of systems on these boats and a lot of things to show, so rather than cut out too much, we erred on the side of providing too much information. The tour is broken up into specific areas of the boat.
