Ran is anchored in False Creek, Vancouver in Canada and one morning we wake up to something crashing in to us. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. Recovering a wrecked Volvo 65 from a remote reef in the Indian Ocean was one thing, rebuilding it to within a few kilos of her original 12.5 tonne weight would be an outstanding achievement, especially in a third of the time it took to build her originally. Matthew Sheahan went to Persico in Italy to see how the team was going about this monster task and how they would go about getting their boat back in the Volvo Ocean Race

The clock is running, and we have 2 hours to unload all the remaining components for our boat!! Plus, we get to do it on one of the hottest days of the year, which is quite a change from the windchills we experienced during the first container unload. Mayday 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3 In a news release, the Coast Guard noted there was snowy conditions and 25 to 30 mph winds with 4 to 6-foot seas that night. "As Coast Guard crews were attempting the rescue, the sailboat ran aground. After the mast of the vessel collapsed, the aircrew was able to lower the rescue swimmer to reach the individuals," noted the news release. After the rescue swimmer retrieved the man and he was hoisted onto the rescue boat, the helicopter crew located the woman in the water and guided the boat crew to her location. Leaving paradise and heading north for winter. It seems a little backwards. We've been in the Florida Keys for quite some time and needed a change. Before leaving we checked out systems, safety gear, and more. Smooth sailing north and decided to stop at Ft. Lauderdale for some additional fuel and us. Gotta love those bascule bridges. We hate going under 65’ fixed bridges since we have a 63’ air draft. Leaving Ft. Lauderdale we had great cruising and then hit some weather. We decided to duck in and found a very nice anchorage. The bottom has great holding and we are well hooked with our 121 pound Rocna anchor. Our Lofrans Falkon windlass is definitely up to the task maneuvering that size of an anchor. We have 200 feet of 1/2 inch chain and the Rocna handles the currents and occasional swells without a problem. Our plants are enjoying sun time in the cock pit. Once anchored we charged our batteries with 1000 watts of solar and 400 watts of wind generator. We also have a Northern Lights 5 kw generator for backup. Thanks for viewing. This week on Sailing Nandji, the time has come to depart the beautiful island of Wayag. The upwind passage of 400nm to the city of Ambon was no easy task. The strong trade winds however had been howling through the area for over a week and showed no sign of easing. We put on our PFDs and big boy pants and tackled the rough seas. With strong winds of 30 knots on the nose, it made for some challenging sailing at first. Then days into the passage, the wind disappears and we are left with our broken motor drifting at sea for days...
