Tra un viaggio e l' altro in barca a vela nel Mediterraneo con la Maruzza, adoro esplorare i posti meno conosciuti e selvaggi del pianeta. Diversi anni fa e' toccato al Venezuela! Ho passato parecchio tempo negli Llanos, le pianure alluvionali che stanno tra l' Amazzonia e la costa tropicale. E' un posto davvero incredibile, infestato di piranha, caimani e ogni tipo di zanzare! La gente del posto e' dura come il cuoio stagionato ma anche accogliente e gentile e farsi ospitare in una fattoria sperduta nel niente e' davvero facile. Lì dominano i cavalli, le mucche e ogni tipo di fauna selvaggia, dalle anaconde ai caimani; dai delfini di fiume ai capipara, i piu' grandi roditori del mondo! Grossi come cani!! E' bellissimo ma anche un incubo! Vivevo nelle capanne dei locali procurandomi la cena come capitava, esplorando i fiumi in canoa e cercando di sopravvivere con quello che imparavo durante il cammino, Un' esperienza incredibile di liberta' che mi ha preparato per tutte le grandi avventure che poi sono seguite, dall' Africa, all' India ai grandi orizzonti del mare. 'Absolutely amazing!'.....'The best conditions!'.......'Phenomenal Racing'! It was clear what the sailors thought as they stepped ashore at the end of the opening event of the 2026 SailGP season. Expectations leading into the event had been high, thanks largely to the reputation of the notorious local sea breeze, The Freemantle Doctor. And from the moment teams went out to practice in the days before it was obvious that the chatter hadn't been hype. Injuries, breakages and high speed dramas had been delivered before the racing had event started, and when it did, the competition was explosive. We had heard that if you walk out to the breaking waves at low tide, you can jump in the holes in the reef and look underwater to try your luck and catching them with your bare hand.
