Vier Monate Stillstand liegen hinter uns. After waiting for a weather window, we set sail from French Polynesia for an 1800 nautical mile passage to Fiji. This stretch of ocean is notoriously squally and unpredictable. We experienced variable winds and some significant swell rolling in from systems in the southern ocean. After a successful voyage, we made landfall in the beautiful country of Fiji. Our boat Julia is an Atkin designed Ingrid ketch. She is a traditional wooden boat, built of fir and cedar on an oak frame in 1960. This type of blue water passage making is exactly what she was designed for. To get a quote for your yacht or boat from Keane Specialty Insurance: https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=DSY In this vlog, we ask a question that many yacht buyers eventually consider: should you buy a classic yacht instead of a modern yacht? Classic yachts have a very particular appeal, but this video is not just about romance, nostalgia, or beautiful design. There are some very practical reasons why a classic yacht can make a lot of sense, especially when you start comparing construction materials, asking prices, range, depreciation, and the realities of yacht ownership. To explore the subject, we look at four classic yachts currently for sale: MADAME THELMA, SULTANA, SUNCOCO and BLUEMAR II. Each of them offers something quite different, but together they help show why classic yachts still have such a loyal following. In this video, we discuss four major advantages of buying a classic yacht, including steel hull construction, value for money, long range cruising, and the fact that many older yachts have already been through decades of refinement and improvement. But classic yacht ownership is not something to approach blindly. We also look at four important things you really need to do before buying one, from speaking with the captain and understanding the yacht’s refit history, to getting expert survey advice and taking an objective view of the purchase. If you are interested in classic yachts, steel yachts, Feadship heritage yachts, CRN yachts, long range cruising yachts, or simply want to understand the difference between older yachts and modern production yachts, this video should give you plenty to think about. #barco #fueraborda #navegacion

Curious about what happens when a yacht charter management contract comes to an end? In this part, we take a closer look at the yacht phase-out process and the different paths available to owners as their contract concludes. From early planning to final handover, this transition is carefully managed to ensure clarity, flexibility, and peace of mind. The process begins well in advance, with owners contacted up to 12 months before the end of their contract to discuss their next steps — whether that’s selling the yacht, continuing under management, or taking full private ownership. As the timeline progresses, follow-ups help refine these plans, leading into the final phase after the last charter season. Once operations conclude, the yacht enters a dedicated maintenance period, followed by detailed inspections and the option for independent surveys before the official handover. This ensures the vessel is delivered in a condition that is fully understood and ready for its next chapter. We also explore real owner journeys, including long-term clients who have successfully transitioned from phase-out into new management agreements — highlighting the flexibility of yacht ownership within a charter program. Whether you’re planning your exit strategy or considering extending your investment, this video offers valuable insight into the full yacht management lifecycle. #YachtManagement #YachtOwnership #YachtCharter #BoatMaintenance #SailingLife

A demanding Arctic passage from Tromsø towards Svalbard. Heavy seas off the Norwegian coast give way to calmer but colder waters as Polaris pushes deep into the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea. Life on board settles into shifting watches motoring through still air and bursts of fast sailing. Floating driftwood unpredictable currents Russian and Norwegian trawlers and close encounters with dolphins and minke whales mark the route. Along the way the crew faces a key decision that will alter the course of the voyage. After days at sea and 352 nautical miles they make landfall in bright Arctic sunshine ready to explore a remote and rarely visited outpost. The episode builds towards this unexpected new direction while following the raw reality of an early-summer Arctic crossing. #SailingToSvalbard #arcticsailing #bluewatersailing #ArcticSailingAdventure #HighLatitudeSailing #SailingDocumentary ⏳ Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 00:27 What happened so far 02:22 Daily routine on board 09:18 Decision time 14:54 Dolphins... 17:51 ... and whales!! 20:14 Land ho! 21:46 The anchor drops 23.23 Preview on the next episode 🎵 Music from Epidemic Sound: Dawning Light by Victor Lundberg Mind Drift by Alec Slayne Mysterious Anticipation by Dream Cave Company With Whales by Jo Wandrini Deeper Than The Ocean by Bonnie Grace 🔗 Links: https://www.norwegiancruisingguide.com https://www.barentswatch.no/en https://www.yr.no/en https://www.luckgrib.com 📺 Watch More… https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRvcLZL9-pokLoV22O1OP3p5eR32J-SDD 🚢 Subscribe & Hit the Bell 🔔 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAym9YS0z1-qYm-s47pNEfw?sub_confirmation=1 📍 Follow Our Journey: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk 🛥️ Ever dreamed of sailing the world? One new project we have started though is our cockpit doors! Since we have no seating running along the sill of our cockpit, that entire space will eventually open up. Which means we need to make three separate doors to close it up at times. Two that will slide into pockets next to the cockpit seats, and one in the center which will lift up and latch to the cabin top. Starting out with fresh sheets of 4x8 nidacore, Matt cuts them down to size, and we go about glassing both sides of them. Each side gets 0.75 oz of chop strand, and then two layers of a 45/45 biaxel. For extra strength around the edges, Matt will be fitting in pieces made from layers of our unidirectional fiberglass. Matt firstly layers six sheets of our unidirectional, cuts them to size, then de-cores the edges around the doors and bonds in the pieces of cured unidirectional by using our TotalBoat structural putty. In some other fun news, we get the chance to prime another area for the first time. Our cabin sides and the under the cabin top. Although the exterior sides of the cabin will be covered by glass or acrylic, we still wanted a fairly smooth surface for those to bond to. And since the underside of the cabin can be seen any time you're sitting on deck, yeah, we just want that to look good, haha. Hopefully these steps will let us get into close up shape pretty soon! Once we move out of the tent and into the work yard, we can begin attaching the nose cones and stern to finally reach the full length of our catamaran! We hope you enjoy!

After 36 days and 17 hours at sea, Thomas Coville and his team on the trimaran Sodebo Ultim 3 have just 2,000 nautical miles to go on their Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, but the conditions ahead they will have to face in the North Atlantic are the strongest winds and the biggest seas of their entire circumnavigation. The time to beat, set by Francis Joyon on IDEC Sport in 2016/17, is 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds, meaning they have to cross the finish line between Ushant and the Lizard Point before 8.31pm (French time) on Sunday 25th January. We bring you the latest video from on board, the forecast and where they currently are. The Famous Project CIC trimaran is also in the North Atlantic, and have faced a number of issues on board. Dee Caffari gives us an updates as to how they've been dealing with the breakages. *Track the boats* Sodebo Ultim 3 - https://sodebo-ultim3.sodebo.com/ The Famous Project CIC - https://trimaran-idec.geovoile.com/julesverne/2025/viewer/ Thumbnail photo (c) Jérémie Lecaudey #sailing #ultim #julesverne

After weeks exploring the remote wilderness of Svalbard, it is finally time to begin the long journey south. In this episode of Expedition Svalbard, we sail more than 550 nautical miles across the Barents Sea on our return passage from the High Arctic back to Tromsø in northern Norway. The voyage home is a careful balance of sailing and motoring as we work with changing Arctic weather conditions. Long watches, fuel calculations and shifting wind forecasts shape each decision on board as we guide our sailing yacht steadily south towards mainland Norway. At times the sea is glassy calm and we motor gently through the Arctic waters. At other moments the wind builds and we reef the sails as the boat surges forward at speed. Dolphins, whales and vast open horizons accompany us along the way as we leave the islands of Svalbard behind. While the miles pass beneath the keel, we reflect on the extraordinary places we experienced during the expedition — drifting icebergs, remote polar landscapes and rare wildlife such as walrus and polar bears. We also visited the unique communities that exist in this harsh environment, including Longyearbyen, Barentsburg and the historic research station of Ny-Ålesund. The return voyage is both demanding and reflective. After 33 days away, sailing back into the familiar waters of Tromsø marks the end of an unforgettable Arctic expedition. From navigating tidal gates to night watches under the midnight sun, this sailing documentary captures the reality of offshore sailing in the High Arctic and the powerful beauty of one of the most remote regions on Earth #Svalbard #ArcticSailing #SailingExpedition #BarentsSea #SailingAdventure ⏳ Timestamps: 00:00 Intro 01:57 Fuel Concerns 08:43 Finally Some Wind and Dolphins 15:18 Motor Sailing Again 18:45 Summer Is Here! 21:01 Epilogue of an Epic Journey 23:28 Preview on Next Episode 🎵 Music from Epidemic Sound: In Our Hands by Ten Tower Odyssey by Christoffer Mo Ditlevsen On The Sky by Helmut Schenker A Place For Peace by Elm Lake Winds Of Change by William Claeson Radiant Colours by Out To The World 🔗 Links: https://www.norwegiancruisingguide.com https://www.barentswatch.no/en https://www.yr.no/en 📺 Watch More… https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRvcLZL9-pokLoV22O1OP3p5eR32J-SDD 🚢 Subscribe & Hit the Bell 🔔 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAym9YS0z1-qYm-s47pNEfw?sub_confirmation=1 📍 Follow Our Journey: https://www.instagram.com/sailingpolaris https://www.facebook.com/sailingpolaris https://www.sailingpolaris.uk 🛥️ Ever dreamed of sailing the world?
