We are two crazies from South Africa, Frik & Petro. We knew absolutely nothing about sailing, but the ocean has always been calling. So we got rid of all our stuff, bought a Leopard 45 Catamaran, and set sail. Follow us as this story unfolds! This is a sea-life adventure captained by a couple of nomads who have built their lives on doing what inspires them in the moment. Join us and see how we break free of the traditional lifestyle, creating videos of our journey, adventures, life on board, and lessons learned along the way. It will be super rewarding if we can be an inspiration or contribute in any way to anybody wanting to fulfill their dreams. SISU (Finnish concept) is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage in situations where success is against the odds. Taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures.
For 56 years McConaghy Boats have built some of the most extreme racing machines. With such a long history in composite construction and a self-proclaimed addiction to building high performance boats, the company invited Matt Sheahan to take a look at some of its most advanced carbon projects. From the production of AC40 foiling monohulls, to hydrogen fuel cell powered foiling chase boats and a constant stream of foiling Moths and Waszps, McConaghy's facility in China is now rammed with carbon large custom cruising cats. During the exclusive three day tour of the Zhuhai factory nothing was off limits. Plus, Matt gets to sail the MC53 to see what the fuss is about. 01:00 McConaghy background 01:56 Zuhai & McConaghy factory 04:29 Building the AC40 - Mark Evans explains 08:16 Building hydrogen fuel cell Chase Zero 11:33 Transferring technology - How foils can work on cruising boats 13:54 Building the big cats 16:23 Building Moths and Waszps 17:19 The scale of McConaghy 18:24 Onboard the MC53 Facebook - @planetsail.org Website - www.planetsail.co.uk Twitter - matthewsheahan Linkedin - www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-sheahan

This video ends with Carolyn's excitement to sit on the frame she built for one of the saloon setees and we'll get a glimpse of Steve laying down on his future berth thanks to all the work shown in this week's episode. A water tank will go inside the space that Carolyn is fitting with one of Victoria's 100-year-old mahogany panel frames, and so it requires a little bit of beefing up. She uses some white oak pieces and locust supports that will be hidden inside the setee/berth to accomplish the goal of ensuring the water tank is properly supported. She also shares how she goes about giving a 1" rise over a 6' run to this sleeping area, which will hopefully result in the slight incline that will make all the difference for comfort. Meanwhile, Steve continues working on the substantial front panel for the double berth that will go into the forepeak, and after some final adjustments, brings the whole business into the boat and, lo and behold, it fits. Bunk boards of mahogany will serve to hold cushions and humans where they belong. We hope you enjoy seeing the interior come together, and thank you so much for watching. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter, which comes more reliably than YouTube notifications, has lots of handy links for related content, and which gets the news out about new things we're offering in our merch shop: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built.
