With a coastline that's open to the Atlantic, the chances that Cadiz' would see punchy conditions were always there. And when the Spanish venue delivered, the action was explosive. From light and tricky to full-on, the sixth event of SailGP Season 2 saw teams having to deal with both extremes of the scale. The result made for some tense and spectacular racing. Here's the 26min review show.

We’re anchored in the stunning Spanish Wells, Bahamas, soaking up the beauty and rich history of this charming island. McKenzie and I explore the local sights, meet some incredible locals, and enjoy the island vibes—until it’s time for her to fly home. With McKenzie gone, I’m left to sail Nauti Dogs solo through one of the most notorious reef passages in the Bahamas: the Devil’s Backbone. It’s a challenging solo run through tight coral heads and shifting shoals as I make my way to the picturesque Harbour Island. Come aboard for a bittersweet, beautiful, and adrenaline-filled journey. ⛵ Join the adventure aboard SV Nauti Dogs! 🐾 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more sailing, stories, and sea life. #SailingBahamas #SpanishWells #DevilsBackbone #HarbourIsland #SoloSailing #SailingDoodles #NautiDogs This channel is funded by viewers like you. We started the long journey of the restoration of the hatches of our sailboat!! If you are new here... we are a Brazilian couple that have just bought a 44ft hot galvanized steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200) and is on the mission of bringing her back to life after 22 years abandoned on the hard. Once we are done, the plan is to sail her to our home town Florianópolis so we can finish building our land base, a Tiny Shipping Container House that we are building ourselves without any prior experience. Captain Eric Sorensen shows you how to dock a twin outboard boat by backing into a slip. This critical boat-handling docking skill makes a lot of less-experienced skippers nervous, but with a little practice, you should be able to do it easily in all types of conditions like wind and current. We'll show you how to perform this maneuver both from the perspective of the helm as well as from above from drone footage. Thanks to AG1 for sponsoring today’s video! Moving everything we own, home, dogs, stuff, to Central America... specifically GUATEMALA! It has not been easy to get here. We battled torrential rains, electrical storms, insane winds waves and good ol bureaucracy. And it only took 8 days of sailing, 3 or 4 days of meandering back and forth getting paperwork sorted, and many sleepless nights. We sail our home Eva up the Rio Dulce river in beautiful Guatemala. We are awe struck by the incredible cliffs, birds, monkeys, and the plethora of boats everywhere. And we make it to our new home for a while at the, very gratefully, welcoming Nanajuana Marina. Thanks for tagging along, we love you all! If you're liking what we're doing, consider joining us on Patreon. https://Patreon.com/expeditionevans. We left the Tuomotus on a 240 nautical mile passage to Mo'orea in the Society Islands. These islands are like a geologic combination of the towering Marquesas and the coral ribbons of the Tuomotus. After a brief visit to Tahiti to pick up additional crew, we explored the ancient ruins and towering views of Mo'orea before another 80 mile passage to the lush island of Huahine. Our vessel Julia is a traditional wooden boat. She was built in 1960 to the Ingrid design by William Atkin. She has safely carried us for thousands of offshore sailing miles, and made our blue water cruising dreams come true. In this episode of Sailing Doodles, we set sail from Highbourne Cay in the Exumas and journey 60 miles across to the stunning Eleuthera island chain. But between us and paradise lies one of the most dangerous passages in the Bahamas—the Yellow Bank. This shallow stretch of sea is littered with thousands of coral heads, known as “bombies,” and navigating it safely requires sharp eyes and perfect timing. To scout ahead, I launch the drone mid-sail and use it to guide us through the coral minefield from above! Come along for the ride as we fly, sail, and steer our way through one of the trickiest crossings in the Bahamas. 🌊 Sailing 📍 Highbourne Cay → Eleuthera 🚁 Drone Navigation 🪨 Coral Heads / Bombies 📷 Gorgeous drone views 🎥 Behind-the-scenes challenges This channel is funded by viewers like you. We're BEYOND stoked to share part 1 of our first passage back on Delos with you! After nearly a year as land lubbers, it's no surprise that things were a bit of an adjustment. We had a slow start with a mixed bag of conditions and some sea sickness, but it felt great to be back out on the open ocean and slow things down after all the craziness of the build and bringing Delos back to life in the yard. The first part of the passage is always a unique feeling...like everything is such a scramble to get ready and make all the preparations, and then all of sudden there's nothing but you and the endless ocean all around you, with nothing to do but keep watch, eat, sleep, (entertain Sierra 🤪) and stare off into the distance. But luckily we had a few days of pretty mellow conditions to get back into the swing of things, because in next week's episode things get a bit hectic with sustained 30 knots and 4-5 meter swell! In the last episode, we broke a plank. No big deal though, as with everything we've come up on in the project, the key is just finding a way forward. So we cut the broken end off of the plank and figured out a way to rig it so that we could steam the ends in and get them close to what they were going to be bending to before we actually fit the plank. This process, using a pot of water, burner, some tubing and a length of vacuum seal bag worked fantastically well. Once the plank was warm, we just left the bag in place and just started clamping the plank in place. This way, there was no worries about the plank cooling down as we tried to put it in place after taking it out of a steam box. In this episode, Steve and Joe also head out on a road trip to pick up some of the donations we received for our trip to Costa Rica to help out SAILCARGO in February. Thank you again to everyone that donated items and has helped out with this side project. It has been very much appreciated and we can't wait to see how they react to the amount of tools we managed to gather up for them. Finally, as promised, we are rounding out our merchandise for the holiday season. We have insulated travel mugs ready (in Black and Silver) as well as some small pins with our logo for smaller dollar item. These are up on our website along with the shirts and the sweatshirts (https://www.acorntoarabella.com/merchandise). If you would like your items in time for the holidays, please make sure that you order before December 19th, 2019. Thank you all for the support!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We at Sailing Virgins are creating instructional videos on how to sail that aren’t lame! Join us as we travel through the Caribbean, Croatia, Tahiti, and more and show you the ropes, literally. ---- We are the world's #1 sailing school for millennials-lessons, courses, classes in the Caribbean, Croatia, and Tahiti. ---- In this episode: Great sailing knots are a staple for skippers around the world. In this episode, we cover not just the six great sailing knots, but a couple of different methods of tying them. For example, did you know you can tie a sheet bend using exactly the same method as tying a bowline? This means you can use your muscle memory for a knot you tie all the time, for a knot you may not tie so often. ------------Contents------------ 00:00 Intro 00:48 Bowline - faster take on the traditional method 02:01 Bowline V2 - incredibly fast "special forces" method 03:53 Clove Hitch - full and quick-release method 05:41 Round Turn & Two Half-Hitches - the underrated knot 06:54 Double Sheet-Bend - our favourite method 09:15 Pro Tip: NEVER DO THIS!! Bowline on bowline (ps. its efficiency is probably better than 5% - James was exaggerating. It's still a cruddy solution. Do a double sheet-bend. SO much better) 10:18 The Rolling Hitch - VERY handy in certain situations 12:21 Figure 8 - tried and true stopper knot Check out our blog post to see a write-up: http://info.sailingvirgins.com/sailing-virgins-blog-dec2017/great-sailing-knots Cheers, Jack and James
Part 114 of a series: Sailing Tampa Bay to Key West. Living on our sailboat in Matlacha, Florida, Ashley works out at the public park.
We get challenged to a race by our friend on a Nautitech 46, as well as an Outremer 51, Lagoon 380, Leopard 44, and a Halberg Rassey also comes along for the race against our hurricane damaged Lagoon 450! Well, it is actually a Jamie 465 now, as we extended the sugar scoops, so come along for the race to see how these production cats compare to each other! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!! In this episode, we complete the hull repairs on the boat and take a CPR course in the meantime. (I have just been made aware of my AED mistake...Automated EXTERNAL Defib; sorry!) We get some unsettling news about our next destination, Las Roques, and change our plans at the last minute, to head to South America, to the Dutch island of Bonaire. We go to the Miami boat show to meet up with lots of our friends, but also celebrate being on the cover of Latitudes and attitudes magazine! Here we go on a Vela boat with our friend John after meeting up with some fellow Below deck friends in Miami. Big thanks to https://socialnavigator.net for organizing our booth at the show as well! We also get to do a Patreon meet up which we absolutely love doing, as these are the people who support this channel. For more reviews test data and captain's report of Mako 234 CC and other Mako boats, go to http://www.boattest.com/boats/boat_video.aspx?ID=3128&ref=YT Few names are more synonymous with salty center consoles than Mako. And the 234 CC is one of the definitive examples of what this company is capable of. She's small enough to be easily trailered, which dramatically increases her range and usability. Yet she is large enough to take on the Gulf Stream day or night. But the big story here are her standard amenities vis a vis her competition as well as her wide power options -- 2-stroke, 4-stroke, or 4-stroke supercharged.
#swimming #clearwaters In this episode we have Pedro, Carla’s father with us for a week, well known as “the paparazzi “, the camera is always on and in his hands! We finally found the banging noise we had on the boat, a few herb jars left behind the oven. We cross to Menorca with not much wind in 31 hours and swap the flags! Lovely swim in Menorca! We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Uma boa parte dos brasileiros quando olha para um veleiro, imagina que ali navega um milionário. Especialmente os que moram a bordo, quase nunca são milionários. Será que em outros países como a Argentina se tem esta mesma visão? Vamos conversar com Jorge Gonzalez, comandante de diversos barcos no Brasil, na Argentina e no mundo para falar sobre isso e seu atual projeto.
