IT'S OUR 10TH VIDEO! *insert celebratory dance* Thank you to those who have clicked the button to follow us on this journey to better our team! We hope you're enjoying the series and are learning some things to apply to your own sailing endeavors. We've had the comment recently from some new members on our team that "there is SO much more to this sport than I thought!" and we realize it can be very overwhelming. This is an informal chat/pep talk to help you gain the confidence to get on the water in whatever capacity you can find, ask questions, and start talking about what you see. Nobody knows everything, so get out there and start somewhere! University of Georgia Sailing Chalk Talk 10: New Athlete in an Old Sport Welcome to our new video series! Our growth has been exponential and in efforts to reach as many people as possible on our race team, we've moved to virtual chalk talks. Enjoy! Ruby Rose family listen up. This episode is LOADS of fun (obvs- this is us we're talking about!) but there's a very serious side to it. Many of the scenes in this episode were shot in parts of the Caribbean that have now been devastated by Hurricane Irma. It's heartbreaking to look back at the footage we took of our time there and know that the islands look so very different now, and- more importantly- so many lives have been terribly affected by this hurricane. Please consider donating to one of the many incredible organisations who are providing support and relief to the victims of Irma. Thanks so much for watching! Our first sail and first impressions of the 52 ft Seawind 1600 before it goes on display at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. Designed by Reichel Pugh and built by Seawind catamarans, this design has beautifully balanced performance with luxury and comfort. Warning Youtude aficionados: This video was shot in one take without scripts, on an iPhone and Mavick Pro Drone while delivering the boat to the owner. So don't expect a Hollywood production - just our thoughts and some key features of our first sail without production. From Ancient Routes to Modern Marvels: Discover the Rio-Antirrio Strait The Patras Bridge (Rio-Antirrio Bridge) is located at the strait of Rio-Antirrio, at the transition between the Gulf of Patras and the Gulf of Corinth. The first person to officially cross the Rio-Antirrio Bridge was a torchbearer as part of the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The Rio-Antirrio Bridge is one of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges. • It connects the Peloponnese peninsula (Rio) with mainland Greece (Antirrio), near the city of Patras. • Officially opened in August 2004, just before the Athens Olympic Games. • Named after Charilaos Trikoupis, a 19th-century Greek Prime Minister who first proposed the idea of such a bridge.

After years of being career focused, we decided it was time to shake things up and sought a lifestyle that would provide us with new experiences, humble us, allow us to visit remote locations, and experience new cultures. In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024. This would be Vicki and Tāiko's first ocean passage and Adam's third. We have since sailed to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, where we will be during the cyclone season. We fund our lifestyle by working part time. This sometimes involves returning to New Zealand to help top up the bank account. The other avenue is through our content creation where we document our journey though YouTube videos and our our social media accounts and website. We would love for you to follow our progress as we navigate a nomadic lifestyle. If our content is something that you enjoy, please consider supporting our channel. How to stay alive free diving with William Truebridge | Sailing Life We love our sailing life. Travel by sailboat exposes us to new cultures, new environments and new perspectives, it encourages us to take on the challenges that pass our way. Risk is second nature to sailors, if we were averse to life challenges then our live aboard sailing catamaran would never have left the shot. However, the trick to handling risk is to learn how to manage it judiciously. Last week we almost lost our eldest son Finn in a free diving accident. We know we must do better. Who greater to learn how to stay alive when free diving than someone who knows the sport inside out and he's a New Zealander to boot. Rob and Finn were lucky enough to sit down to a zoom call with 7 times world champion and 18 times free diving world record holder William Truebridge. Music David Mumford - Ball and chain Musicbed.com Thank you to William Truebridge for taking the time to speak to us and access supplementary footage. If you are interested in learning or improving your free diving check out Williams online course @ https://fitwith.io/williamtrubridge Thank you for helping keep us afloat and supporting the creative process. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis WEB SITE www.thecruisingkiwis.com SOCIAL MEDIA Follow us on: Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/THECRUISINGKIWIS Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/THECRUISINGKIWIS Much love to you all, Rob, Rachel, Finn, Declan, Ivan https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis BACK STORY In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #sailing #freediving #blackout #TheCruisingKiwis #235
