We lucked out! It seems the docks on the Islands are still pretty full, even after Labour Day. We expected to maybe cruise around and find nothing for the weekend, which would have kept us at the dock. I noticed that some friends were out, so I texted them and asked where they were and if there was a spot. They replied that they were on an Island, there were no extra spaces....BUT...they were leaving Saturday morning so if we got there around 10:00 am, we could swap spots! Tremendous! It was really windy and gusty by the time we left the marina on Saturday morning, but we got to Grenadier Island in plenty of time, swapped out the spots, and started to get settled. Some other friends contacted us, and we let them know that there was a free spot for their boat. So a great weekend was had with good friends! Chloe was the Star of the Show, and the weekend. She was constantly sniffing, tracking, and chasing any critter she could see. It was so much fun to see her so serious and alert as a Hunter! She caught nothing, by the way. On Sunday, heading back to the marina, we stopped into Huck's Marina for a fuel-up and pump-out. What a beautiful facility and really helpful staff! As the bad weather starts coming in, it's more important for us to take advantage of every weekend on the boat!

The Dutch Tourzeilers organize a night sail on the IJsselmeer—and I decide to join. It will be my very first solo night sail. Because of the northerly wind, I have to tack the entire way. I leave early from Almere and sail 54 nautical miles in total, arriving at 2:00 AM in Medemblik. The night is beautiful, the boat steady at nearly seven knots—but the final approach is intense. I struggle to see the harbor entrance and must lower the sails inside the harbor for the first time in a place I’ve never been before. Day 12 of our sail from the USA to South America… and this is where the crossing starts to get rough. After finally reaching stronger winds out in the Caribbean Sea, the conditions quickly deteriorate and our headsail completely shreds offshore. With over 30 knots of wind, building swell, and no fuel left to rely on, we’re forced to drag the sail down on a violently rolling deck and attempt repairs in the middle of the ocean. Exhausted, sleep deprived, sea sick, and running purely on adrenaline, this turned into one of the hardest days we’ve faced aboard Escapade so far. Even Tom — who has never been sea sick before — finally reaches his limit while helping repair the sail down below. To make things worse, we get caught in a nasty squall with winds of 45 knots as the reality of offshore sailing really begins to hit. Mit beeindruckender Energie und viel Herzblut wurden uns traditionelle Tänze gezeigt, die seit Generationen weitergegeben werden. Es war wunderschön zu sehen, wie lebendig Kultur sein kann und wie stolz sie hier bewahrt wird. Natürlich lief parallel unser Alltag auf dem Katamaran weiter. Unser Motor stellte uns vor große Herausforderungen, also hieß es geduldig bleiben und eine Lösung finden – so ist das Leben auf See. The crew leaves Sorong behind and goes searching for the village of Waisai. We get lost in the middle of no where but find a sweet spot to hang out and chill for a few days. We do some awesome exploring, some spearfishing, and of course some diving. Brady gets food poisoning and we have to treat him with antibiotics :( Our Mission It’s simple really- we just want to make you SMILE! We do this because we LOVE it.
