Thanks for the title David, we really love it! In this episode Matt starts with the sanding of our bottom so that we can get it ready for paint. Inevitably in a few spots he goes through down to bare metal, which means they need to be primed again with our Interlux Innerprotect before any of the new bottom paint can go on. We also make a trip from Praia to Angra do Heroismo to visit our friend Carlos and pick up a few packages he's been holding for us. We were a little surprised to find a few have been held up in customs and then went on a search to see if that could get taken care of. It was fruitless. Solar and sunrises….Peniche to Porto! After a short break we’re back to finish the story of our journey to take Intrepid Bear back to the U.K., against the prevailing northerly winds on the Atlantic coast of Portugal and across Biscay to our home port of Poole. Join us as we sit at anchor in the busy fishing port of Peniche to wait out some northerlies. We are lucky enough to have a good solar set up that enables us to work online as well as do all our cooking on board, even running a bread maker, so being off grid here for a few days is no hardship. When the next break in the prevailing winds comes we start a series of dawn departures to make as much headway as we can, enjoying the stunning sunrises that come from@such early starts. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Doch bevor man etwas Neues auf- oder einbaut, muss erst einmal das Alte raus. In dieser Phase sind wir nun. Momentan ist es auch zu kalt für Epoxiarbeiten, deswegen bin ich derzeit vorwiegend mit Ab- und Ausbau von Sachen beschäftigt. Der Ausbau aller Tank, der Ersatz der in die Jahre gekommenen Schläuche und Leitungen ist nur ein Teil davon. Die Dieseltanks mussten raus, weil ich nur dadurch Zugang zum Boden der Wetlockers bekommen habe, das ständig darin schwappende Wasser stört mich schon Jahre. Hier möchte ich den Boden höher setzen, um das Eindringen von Wasser zu minimieren. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Am vierten September kamen wir in Wien an, 980 Seemeilen und 2120 km über die europäischen Wasserstraßen lagen hinter uns. Seitdem liegt Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, der Refit hat bereits begonnen.
