No Choice, Big Risk: Taking Our Boat Into the Shallows

There is not much protection in the Bahamas from storms that circle 360. We had a storm quickly approaching us and needed to find protection that we could fit into. We have a 5ft draft on our monohull, and read on navionics of someone fitting a 4.5ft draft. We went at high tide, got in the water, and scoped out our shelter. It was very sketchy with the rocks and a tight narrow path that was just shallow enough. We would not recommend a 6ft draft in this pond, but could be doable with careful planning. Getting stranded for a few days from a storm wasn't the worst. We had amazing lobster and fish dinners with other cruisers, played on the paddle boards with the kiddos, and had a great time spearfishing with our friends. #bahamas #sail #sailing #normancay #normanpond #boat #anchoring #storm #windy #badweather
