Day 1 of our Scotland adventure starts early… very early. We’re heading from Hampshire up to Scotland to begin the NC500, with a long day of driving ahead of us. After a broken night’s sleep in a motorway stop (thanks to loud cars and even louder exhausts), we push on north with seven-plus hours still to go. Somewhere past Birmingham, stopping at a quiet reservoir, the journey really begins to change. Motorways slowly give way to hills, valleys and that first proper feeling of Scotland — including the moment we finally pass the “Welcome to Scotland” sign. By the end of the day, the miles are worth it. We arrive at an incredible spot at the end of Loch Ness, with a private beach, a stream, space for a small campfire and views that make every tired mile disappear. Our family sailing adventure this week was at Rakino Island, one of our favourite islands of the Gulf. We fly the drone and catch it on the boat, kayak over to a small island group called the three sisters and Blake & Toby get really scared from crabs chasing them! We also explain why we wear Sea Shepherd clothing and support their vision. Also a shout out to the Hauraki Gulf Forum / Hauraki Gulf Watershed / G.I.F.T. for getting behind and supporting the ailing Hauraki Gulf. We are two brothers, aged 4 and 7, who love going on sailing family adventures - exploring the outdoors and finding super cool wild animals, bugs and marine life. So along with our parents, we’re sailing the world, exploring islands, and looking for interesting wildlife. We start our adventure sailing New Zealand but dream of sailing around the Mediterranean some day. We love our planet and want to look after our environment, so through our travels we hope other kids will feel inspired to care for our planet and wildlife too. On my last day of the Menai Strait adventure, I sail my Drascombe Lugger to Fort Belan and back. Stopping in the windy bay by the fort to have lunch onboard. On the way I share everything i've learnt about cruising on the sea and on the way back, I realise that I just had my first solo sail on the sea! Von Gibraltar aus geht es weiter Richtung Madeira. In der Straße von Gibraltar muss ich durch das Gebiet, wo die meisten Angriffe von Orkas gemeldet worden sind. Zum Glück komme ich dort gut durch, ohne sie zu sichten. Dann folgen vier Tage schönes Atlantiksegeln und danach fällt in der Nacht der Anker vor Porto Santo. Viel Spaß! Mein 2. Zum Inhalt: Erneut bezwinge ich den Atlantik, diesmal auf der anspruchsvolleren Nordroute. In der Karibik ankert die Jambo in den schönsten Buchten. Doch dann dreht der Wind! Nach dem Glück folgt die Katastrophe. Denn auf dem Weg zu den Azoren bricht der Mast der Jambo. Ich kann mich und das Boot retten und erreiche mit Mühe St. Martin. Die Jambo braucht einen neuen Mast und die Geschichte nimmt ihren Lauf. Im Nachhinein weiß ich nicht, was schlimmer war: den Mast zu verlieren oder einen neuen zu bekommen.
