Bei "idealen" Segelbedingungen (Wind 5-7+ - Tief Andreas lässt grüßen) wurde jedoch aus dem Speedwettbewerb ein rasanter Badetag! Das Wassersportcamp am Peenestrom liegt an einem der schönsten und windreichsten Segel- und Surfreviere Deutschlands, umschlossen von der Ostseeinsel Usedom und dem Festland zwischen Wolgast und Anklam. Das Camp in der Nähe des Ortes Wehrland, im Naturpark Usedom gelegen, bietet einen Katamaranverleih und -Segelschule in Verbindung mit Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten für Selbstversorger (zentrale Küche und Sanitärgebäude) in einfachen Finnhütten. This is a super clean, low hours cruiser with a fantastic power package! Less than 80 hours on the Volvo Penta 5.7Gxi duoprop power package, and the interior has barely even been slept in! There's full camper canvas, and a cockpit cover, snap out carpets in the cockpit, sony CD stereo, electric head, microwave, fridge, power windlass, and it even comes with the galvanized tandem axel trailer. The boat has been mechanically inspected and detailed in and out and shows very well. This is a perfect cruiser for the Shuswap as it is big enough to handle any weather out here, but small and manoeuvrable enough to get into a tight moorage spot. The Transatlantic Race 2015 is a 2,800-mile race from Newport, R.I., to The Lizard on the southwestern corner of England. This is the 30th transatlantic race since three New York Yacht Club members sponsored the first one in 1866. A fleet of 38 boats—ranging in size from 40 to 140 feet and in age from 100 years to 10 months—departed from Newport in one of three different starts (June 28, July 1 and July 5). Raw video of Sage 17 AIR BORN sailing the down wind leg of the second race of the Cruiser Challenge on Monterey Bay, CA. AIR BORN took second place in this race and second place in the regatta medium boat class. 1st place honors in the medium sized boats were taken by Sage 17 GOSHAWK sailed by the Sage 17 designer Jerry Montgomery. You can see GOSHAWK in this video under AIR BORN's headsail. The person shown in the video is friend Stan. You can see the other boats in the medium and large boat classes behind Stan. The Sage 17s were first and second to finish of all large and medium sized boats. At 1:36 you can see a yellow hulled boat with a tanbark headsail. That is highly modified Potter 19 REGAIL.

On a visit to a marina in Indonesia I came upon this dismasted Amel Super Maramu. I heard through the grapevine that the solo sailor was caught in a sudden storm in the South China Sea with too much sail aloft. Before he could reduce sail he suffered knockdown and subsequent dismasting. The sailor survived the incident with a severe concussion. A true testament to the strength of the Amel boats is that the hull integrity was not compromised, and the vessel was successfully salvaged by the owner. A break from the business of fixing broken things. The Missus and I had our friends Kai & Ruth along for a fun weekend of sailing in Langkawi. We were initially trapped in the marina by bad weather, but a fortuitous break in the weather gave us a change to cast off the lines and have some fun. This was also the first time I got to meet the crew of SV Totem.

Before I had Andiamo II, I piled on a bunch of RYA courses, including the DaySkipper certification. It was five days of living aboard a Beneteau First 42. We enjoyed all-day sailing and zero motoring. The course was conducted over five days and four nights out of the Keppel Bay Sailing Academy in Singapore. The sailing takes us from daysailing Singapore waters to doing a short passage to Indonesia, some more daysailing in Indonesia out of Nongsa Point Marina, and finally back to Singapore. This was supposed to be a simple sail. Move the boat from the marina to an anchorage close to my sailmaker's loft so we could fit the new 110% headsail. I was sailing with my 150% headsail in this video, and since I had just fitted a new roller furler, it turned out that the furling line was too short to haul in the sail under tension, which led to some drama. The cost to self was bruised ego, bruised face from getting beaten up by flogging sheets and the loss of my prized Tilley Hat overboard.

I'm on a family holiday with The Missus and the kids in gorgeous Thailand, and manage to get myself into and then out of trouble with my anchor. I nearly lost my anchor overboard. To compound matters I also managed to wrap my prop in the dinghy's tow line at the same time :/

While visiting the northern islands of Indonesia I was struck by the Singapore skyline at sunset, especially with the contrast of the humble fishing village in the foreground. When shooting this video I imagined a little child standing on shore in this fishing village, staring across the sea at the glittering Singapore skyline with it's promise of wealth and a better life so tantalisingly close, but still a world away. My partner and i sailed our 37ft James Wharram Tangaroa catamaran from Port Lincoln in SA to Cactus. Sailed through and bunkered down for some horrible weather but also had some beautiful times sailing around the rugged coast and islands of the west coast.
