The bulk of this video is about how we had the gooseneck repaired on our sailboat. The gooseneck is the section of the boat that connects the boom to the mast. After doing our rigging checks we noticed that two bolts sheered off from the plates holding the gooseneck on. Later we discovered that the actual gooseneck was cracked! Après un mois de chantier, dont deux semaines hors de l’eau, Alan et SuperBigou sont en route pour les courses entraînements avant le départ du Vendée Globe. À tout juste 21 ans le jeune suisse natif de Genève a déjà plus d’un tour du monde en milles nautiques à son palmarès. Après près de douze ans à voyager en famille à bord de la Ludmilla, un voilier de 13 mètres, dans l’Atlantique et le Pacifique, c’est en effet sur l’eau qu’Alan a passé la plus grande partie de sa vie. À 2 ans, déjà, le petit dernier du clan Roura vivait à bord d’un bateau sur le lac Léman. Et s’il n’a jamais pris de cours de voile, c’est l’école de la vie qui lui a permis de gravir les échelons petit à petit. More than 1500 islands make up the Raja Ampat archipelago off the Bird’s Head of West Papua. These islands and their surrounding coral reefs support the richest tropical marine bio-diversity found anywhere in the world. The area includes 4.6 million hectares of diverse marine habitats and is home to more than 1,000 species of fish, 700 species of mollusks and some 540 species of hard corals (75% of the World total!). Larger marine life includes sperm whales, baleen whales and even orcas coming through this area and there are green turtle nesting beaches on the island of Sayang in the North. Some of the highlights of a Raja Ampat cruise with the Seven Seas include the great diving, snorkeling and cave exploring around the rocky islands off South East Misool, the coral reefs of the Fam Island group, the fish and manta rays of the Dampier straight, the critter diving at Batanta and in Aljui Bay, and of course the great karst formations of the Wayag Archipelago up North. Kayaking among the bee hive shaped karst formations in the Wagmab Island chain in the South is nothing short of stunning, and scattered deserted beaches throughout the Raja Ampat islands make for excellent sunset hideaways. Village visits are unique throughout this region, birds of Paradise can been seen at various locations, and an enormously extended Atoll can be found around Ayau Island in Pacific waters in the far North. A lot of people wondered how I did my droneshots from my "Solo sailing to Shetland" trilogy videoes. Here is how I do it :) I fly it and steer it from my boat. The easy part is lift off, the hard part is landing. I would not recomend doing this from a boat before you have sufficient training on land. Then try it on flat water, then later in waves. In waves just the slightest mismanouver can result in losing the drone, so its all on your own risk!
