I must say, the beginning of our 236nm sail from Niue to Vava’u - Tonga was a bit of a downer, considering the auto pilot had once again stopped working and this meant we would be hand steering for 2 days. Any old salt would have probably just stayed in Niue until it was fixed, but us kids decided to keep going and sort it out when we got to Tonga. We’d heard nothing but good things​ about the place from fellow sailors and we were super keen on exploring a new destination. With barely two weeks remaining before 'The Big Turn Right' on Boxing Day, a number of the grand prix performers – including Black Jack, CQS, Wild Oats XI and Ichi Ban - were to be seen offshore in training and work-up mode today, enjoying perfect sailing conditions. The Bow Caddy team sent their aerial camera out to capture the last yacht to return through the Heads as she headed into the harbour in the late afternoon sun.

The Thurlow Fisher Lawyers crew’s decision to go with their new big rig proved a winner in today’s Syd. Barnett Jr. Memorial Trophy 3-Buoy 18ft Skiff race on Sydney Harbour. With a 12-15 knot ENE wind prevailing, only four of the 18-boat fleet elected to go with the bigger #1 rig and it was decisive in the Thurlow Fisher Lawyers win.

It’s finally time to take our new cat on her first sail! We leave the dock in Naples, FL and head up the coast towards Tampa on our Australian built 38’ catamaran, a Seawind 1160. We motor out into the gulf slowly as it’s pretty shallow in the harbor. There are lots of pelicans watching our departure, but they’re not quite as cool as our on-board owl, Hootie! This first trip is just a few hours of motoring north to a quiet, protected anchorage in San Carlos Bay, and it is here that we anchor the catamaran for the first time. We have an electric windlass button in the cockpit which is really great - it means Josh can do most of the work from the helm, and my job is simply checking that the anchor drops properly, then making sure that we let out the right amount of chain. A future project will be adding colored silk ribbons to the anchor chain every 5 or ten feet so that I don’t have to “guestimate” how much chain we have out. Or do you guys have any other good tips for this? We’re looking forward to the time when we can simply relax with a cocktail and a good book in the evenings - right now any spare time is spent working on the boat. This episode we have yet more engine issues to resolve - Josh gets his hands dirty fixing the water pump on the starboard engine. We were lucky to find a spare water pump on board! Obviously weight is an issue on any bike tour, so to minimise what I was carrying I found a way to use my headlamp as my only light solution. It functions as my torch, headlamp and headlight. If course I have a rear light, and my phone has a backup torch. Sorry about the noise, i was near a busy road.

Howdy peoples ! Today were are sailing in the Tier X Soviet destroyer, Khabarovsk, on the map Tears Of The Desert, Domination ! After a rough start, we pull ourselves together and takes the fight back to the enemy team, even if it costs us our ship... I hope you'll enjoy the video ! Join us as we sail to the lovely Island of Leros in the Greek Dodecanese. For us it marks the end of our time in the Aegean this year, as we now will head South into the Mediterranean, and explore the Southern Turkish coastline. While in Leros we jump aboard another scooter and zip around the Island, stopping to enjoy the beautiful scenery and local attractions.
