The LSG Group has taken its culinary excellence skills to yet another level: The company’s Global Culinary Excellence Team has developed “bonus food” for Alexander Gerst, a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut and International Space Station (ISS) commander during the upcoming “Horizons” mission. Bonus food plays an important role in the astronauts’ physical and psychological wellbeing during their typically six-month stay onboard the ISS. While their day-to-day meals are a selection from a standard food catalogue, they can take a certain amount of bonus food (about 10 percent of their total provisions), which is specifically developed to their individual preferences. The consumption of the bonus food onboard the ISS is an important team event that fosters morale and spirit during the astronauts’ challenging stay in space. “When you fly onboard the ISS, you are around 400 km above our planet,” said Frank de Winne, Head of the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany. “We certainly want our astronauts to perform in an optimal manner, so we need to provide them support. One of the supports we provide is food.” “In order to enhance the challenging life of the astronauts, we try to offer them a taste of home,” commented Jörg Hofmann, Director Culinary Excellence LSG Group. “Food is deeply connected to our families, personal life and cultural heritage. In de-veloping the bonus food, we needed to think completely out of the box and were able to apply all our knowledge and culinary expertise in a very unique way.” Today, there was a media event at the EAC in which the attendees were able to sample the Horizons mission bonus food. “It was a great compliment and accomplishment for us to receive some excellent feedback from the ESA, and we look very much forward to seeing the astronauts enjoy our creations in space,” added Jörg Hofmann. The Horizons mission is scheduled to start mid-2018.

Raymarine/Tacktick Wireless Wind Anemometer Repair Patrick Childress show how to do a battery replacement in your Raymarine or Tacktick wireless wind indicator. If your wind display on a Tacktick unit/Raymarine , wind speed shows just dashes, it usually indicates that there is no signal from the masthead wind indicator (T101). This indicates that a wind transmitter battery replacement is due. It may be that the solar charged battery at the top of the mast can no longer be charged. Replacing the rechargeable battery at the top of the mast often fixes this, and/or the battery inside of the display unit. This is strictly a How To Video that demonstrates the replacement of the battery in a Raymarine or Tacktick wireless anemometer/wind transmitter. Years ago, Raymarine bought Tacktick wireless instruments, as well as the wind anemometer. After a while the batteries can not hold a charge and communication between the cockpit instruments and the masthead unit fails. Where do you find the battery for a Raymarine anemometer? | Season 2 | Episode 21 | On this episode we pull up the hook at Cueva Valdez and head out for a easy 7 nm passage to Pelican Bay. As soon as I got out of the anchorage I saw a large fog bank that was quickly approaching and soon over took me. After the fog passed I made my way into the anchorage of Pelican Bay which is a large half circle bay sounded by cliffs and very protected from the Northwest swell. After a much needed dip in the bay I wasted no time getting out of the 55 degree water, got my stuff together and went ashore to explore. I was fortunate enough to see the Island Scrub Jay and the Island Fox, both of which only exist on the Channel Islands. Pelican Bay turned out to be the most relaxing and comfortable anchorages of the trip by far! The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins. While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage. I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. Wir sind also unter Motor zwischen den Inseln vor Trinidad hindurch manövriert, als wir aus unserem Auspuff blauen Rauch bemerkt haben... Kein gutes Zeichen... Gleich zu Anfang der Reise wurden wir beklaut, zwei von uns wurden krank und wir mussten riesige Staudämme überwinden. Das alles spielte sich im Sommer 2017 ab. Wir haben uns nach unserer Norwegen Radreise dazu entschlossen in ein warmes Land zu reisen und Wasser nicht mehr in Form von Regen sondern in Form von schönen Seen und Flüssen zu genießen. GESAGT GETAN! Wir haben uns Kajaks gekauft und Tim hat auf Google Maps einen Fluss irgendwo in Spanien rausgesucht den wir hoffentlich runter paddeln können. LEICHTER GESAGT ALS GETAN! In Barcelona der Hauptstadt Spaniens angekommen, beginnen unsere Strapazen! Gleich in der ersten Nacht geschieht ein riesen Unglück! Am nächsten Morgen fahren wir weiter nach "Tremp'", einer kleinen Stadt in den südlichen Pyrenäen. Auch dort müssen wir feststellen, dass wir uns das Alles etwas zu leicht vorgestellt haben. Nach der zweiten sehr kalten Nacht sind wir schon sehr fertig und dabei haben wir unsere Kajaks noch nicht einmal aufgepumpt! Dann geht es jedoch endlich los und die Stimmung hebt sich bei Allen wieder! Wir müssen jedoch schnell feststellen, dass der Fluss nicht für unsere Kajaks geschaffen ist. Überall hängen riesige Baumstämme ins Wasser und alles ist voller kleiner Spinnen. Auch der Wasserstand reicht nicht ganz aus und wir müssen oft absteigen und schieben. Als wir dann an unserem ersten Stausee ankommen, haben wir zwar Gegenwind, jedoch sind wir alle gut gelaunt, weil die Landschaft einfach der Hammer ist! Gleich am nächsten Tag haben wir das nächste große Problem. Der Staudamm ist nicht dafür ausgelegt, dass irgendwelche Paddler mit ihren Schlauchbooten drüber klettern. So müssen wir lösungorientiert denken und unsere Boote über die Staumauer schaffen. Als wir das nach einiger Zeit geschafft haben ist jedoch erst die Hälfte geschafft! Wir müssen schließlich auch wieder runter zu unserem Fluss. Das raubt uns nochmal viel Zeit, Kraft und Schweiß (40 Grad Mittagshitze), da es keinerlei Wege gibt und wir unsere Boote ein steiles Geröllfeld runter tragen müssen. Später auf unserer Reise werden wir feststellen müssen, dass diese nur eine von vielen Strapazen ist, die uns noch erwarten - das gehört aber einfach dazu, sonst wär es ja kein Abenteuer! Trotz allem war es eine super Reise, wir hatten es nur nicht ganz so einfach. Aber genau darum geht es ja, Erfahrungen sammeln und so viel wie möglich erleben. Wir haben die gesamte Reise aus eigene Tasche finanziert und sind somit noch stolzer über das was wir geschafft haben. Für das nächste mal ist jedoch klar, dass eine Drohne her muss und wir allgemein unser Kamera Equipment aufstocken müssen, denn wir wollen uns in Sachen Qualität noch deutlich steigern. Wir haben versucht unsere Reise so echt wie es nur geht zu dokumentieren und dabei nichts zu spielen oder zu stellen (unser Fokus lag auf storytelling). Here is a basic coverage of all things anchoring pertaining to kayaks. :D Trying something different. I broke my mic adapter for my phone, so,... I decided to use an older iphone for recording (because you can record from your headphones mic) and use my Samsung S8 for the video. The close ups are done with a Sony SJCAM5000. Was very easy to shoot and even easier to edit! Probably going to use this setup a lot more.. lol

The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel.
