#22 Ohhhh Bimini Island! Quelle merveille, franchement. Building a cruising sailboat The chine log and sheer clamp are fully laminated and the sheer clamp has been cleaned up (almost!). I'm happy to announce that I've passed the 1000 subscriber mark on YouTube and I announce changes to my Patreon set up and content. Tony's tool tip is hand saws. All music from these videos is available from: https://ynotb.bandcamp.com/album/the-sv-tapatya-tracks Follow the build, along with the story of my first cruising adventure (The Miss Molly I Adventures) on my website; http://www.svtapatya.com Support the build, the vlog, the blog and the writing on; https://www.patreon.com/sv_tapatya Or follow me on Instagram for various shots of my boating life; https://www.instagram.com/sv.tapatya This is the story of my building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk-rigged, schooner dory. The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. If you want to support the project but don't fancy the Patreon thing, one-off Paypal donations can also be made via the button on my website. Thank you! Tony

Its definitely not all fun and games, the reality of having a boat and boat work can get hard! Expecially with a wooden boat there is SO much hard labour to do, but we are positive, dedicated and dreaming of getting back into the ocean and sipping pina coladas while the sun goes down. I will be jumping for joy when that happens, until then ill keep dragging my feet! Subcribe to our channel, after all this work we plan on leaving to sail the remote top end through the Kimberlies. I feel like boat people will actually really see the hard work we are putting in and its you we want to connect with. We would love to hear from you. Yesterday we sailed from Highborne Cay to Shroud Cay in the Exumas of The Bahamas! We had quite the scare when we noticed something was burning down below as we were coming in to anchor! Check that video out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwIetKnwzdY&t=199s We found a fantastic spot to anchor and besides the awful smell of smoke, we slept great that night! The following day we went exploring on our dinghy and found some incredible places to explore! The sand on Shroud Cay was extremely soft and felt like we were walking in cake batter or deep warm snow. One of our favorite things about this area of Shroud Cay was the crescent sharped sand bar with the perfect lagoon in the middle. It was a perfect place to swim and relax in the water. *********************************************************************** THANK YOU for watching our videos and for SUBSCRIBING to our YouTube channel! Support; http://www.sampsonboat.co.uk/support-tally-ho Become a Patron; http://www.patreon.com/sampsonboatco THIS episode, I am in southern Georgia , and I work with Steve Cross of Cross Sawmill to mill and grade lots of Southern Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana) for Tally Ho’s framing stock – one of the most historically important and best-regarded shipbuilding timbers in the world, which is no longer often milled commercially due to its extreme toughness. Steve mills the timber on his amazing and enormous homemade bandsaw, which is constructed from 5 forklifts, 9 semi trailers, and “god knows what else”, according to Steve. We also look at Live Oak trees in the area, including one that is claimed to be the largest Live Oak in the world… all the while keeping an eye out for Alligators! So we finally left Lefkas and we're sailing again after a long cold wet winter! We hoisted the sails, turned off the engine and were met with beautiful white caps and magic dolphins. What a thrill! It was sad to say goodbye to all the friends we'd made over the last few months but fantastic to feel the wind in our sails and be traveling on the sea once again. Day five of sailing offshore to Greenland and everyone has settled into a rhythm. Like a pendulum, Paragon rolls from side to side as she moves forward in variable wind and we struggle to find a balance with our sails. The droning of the engine wears on the crew at the best of times...can a burst of wind save us from the constant noise? Stay with us! Note: At minute 14:29 Drake says that Ireland is a part of the Schengen Agreement. At the time this was filmed, we had more than a few sources telling us that Ireland was Schengen. For example in our copy of Jimmy Cornell's book "World Cruising Handbook (copyright 2010) it says "Ireland is a member of the EU and Schengen Agreement". So at the time we were pretty sure Ireland was Schengen. However later we did discover that Ireland is actually not a part of the Schengen Agreement, and we spent a wonderful winter in lovely Kinsale! :) Help support our channel by making purchases through our DrakeParagon affiliate links: - Fogstar LiFePO4 batteries: https://www.fogstar-drift.co.uk/?ref=zosysjig - BLUETTI LiFePO4 power stations EU: https://bluettieu.pxf.io/jrP9Aa - BLUETTI LiFePO4 power stations US: https://bluettius.sjv.io/jrPv4Z - Bodega electric coolers: https://www.bodegacooler.com/?click_id=DrakeParagon Join our Patreon community for our latest news, sneak peeks of current footage, outtakes and behind the scenes footage, and commercial free videos! https://www.patreon.com/DrakeParagon Paypal: Any amount helps us with our video production expenses and is greatly appreciated! https://PayPal.me/DrakeParagon Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drakeParagon Instagram: @DrakeParagon https://www.instagram.com/drakeparagon _________________________________ See the whole North Atlantic Adventure series with the links below! Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Amy's family was coming to visit soon, which meant we had to say goodbye to the Lau Group and set sail across Fiji. Usually Amy and I do our passages with just the two of us, but this time, we had some hitchhikers! Alifereti and Koroi, two villagers from Fulanga needed a ride to Suva for a conference so we offered to drop them off as we sailed to the west side of Viti Levu. This passage was a slight logistical challenge, with lots of islands in the way and light winds that shifted direction halfway through. My planning skills were put to the test and we got to try a few new sail combinations, including our spinnaker, which is always fun! But I think the biggest highlight of the trip was the GIANT Mahi-Mahi we caught. I was super glad to have some help reeling it in! All too soon we arrived in Suva and had to say goodbye to our new friends. We elected to stay for one night in order to fuel up and do some provisioning and then it was off for one more night around to Musket Cove. That brought us one step closer to Amy's family! Thanks for watching! (Footage from September 2017) Our Gear: Lots of people have been messaging us, asking about the gear we have on board Starry Horizons and what we use to film.

In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we check out Javea old town on market day and dig up some ancient Roman history about a locally made fish sauce called Garum. Basically fish guts were the ketchup of Ancient Rome. Thursday is market day in Javea old town and we'd been meaning to check it out for months but the timing was never right. We finally got there and it was packed with heaps of stalls selling a huge variety of items. We recommend checking out the locally made produce, including cheeses, hams, spices and pickled and marinated goodies. Wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen, there's a lot of walking involved. We then took a really good look around Javea old town with the hidden gem of the fortress-church of Sant Bartomeu at its centre. After a bit of research we also uncovered a local industry that produced and supplied Garum to the Roman Empire. Like modern fish sauce, Garum was also made from fermented fish, the guts specifically and salt. Romans cooked with it either as a straight flavoring or by combining it with other ingredients.
