#28 Ouiiiii!!! The LeisureCat 9000 Kingfisher Express, like the Kingfisher, is the culmination of discussion and requests by you, the fisherman and rescue groups. It can be extended to 10m for that extra cockpit space. It has a wide beam (3.1m), wide hulls capable of comfortably taking diesel drives with stern legs. It has larger fuel tanks (2 x 600 litres), larger freshwater capacity (240 litres), raised coamings at rear, larger 500 litre removable fish boxes and is fully enclosed. All-in-all, a very solid fishing platform ideal for Police, Rescue and Charter for use in all weathers.

All Star Philippines is a 118-foot luxury yacht designed with your comfort in mind. Ten spacious cabins accommodate up to 21 guests with all of the conveniences you would expect. Decorated in a modern retro-chic style all cabins have private baths. The diving in the Philippines must be seen to be believed. It’s just that good. All Star Liveaboards offers trips to the world renowned reefs of Tubbataha. Tubbataha was established as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and is located in the middle of the Sulu Sea over 80 miles offshore from Palawan. Tubbataha is comprised of three atolls (North Atoll, South Atoll and Jessie Beazley) and is home to over 350 coral species, 600 species of fish and 100 bird species. These atolls are known for clear water and big creature diving! Whales Sharks, Hammerheads, Tiger Sharks and Manta Rays can all be found in the waters surrounding these three Atolls.
Video courtesy of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park & AOF Foundation All Star Philippines can be found diving the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tubbataha National Park, from March through June. At the center of the Coral Triangle between the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, lies Tubbataha (pronounced too-bah-ta-hah). This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the Tubbataha National Marine Park and is comprised of just 3 coral atolls that sit 100 miles offshore. To say the diving here is something that has to be seen to be believed is an understatement. Surrounded by deep cerulean blue seas, the atolls of Tubbataha break the surface of the sea by only a few inches. And it’s what surrounds that atoll that will amaze.

In this episode I will show you the beautiful Melilla and share some of the beautiful sights and highlights from 5 months there this winter. I met lots of nice people there. Jim & Cora from the sailboat Edna May, Rune from Vesper, Fred and his son Ole Tobias, Håkan and his Scottish crew mate Steve from the Bluebill, Fingers and the lovely couple who bbought Jim and Cora's boat. They are all in this episode of Sail Mermaid :) We also witnessed a bird with broken wings and the people trying to save it. Do you think that is a good idea? Will the bird ever be able to fly again? What do you think? Let me know in the comment section below. But we could also se traces of broken dreams... The rowlocks were a none standard size on the kids dinghy and we couldn't get any oars to fit, so Woody cut off the old rowlocks and glued on some new ones he found on some abandoned dinghies by the skips in the boat yard. 10 days to the move, we are getting the boat ready for us to move onboard! I was secretly hoping that Ryan would have put the boat back in order while I was away, sailing across the North Sea. Nope! It had a lot of work left to do… Coming home, the reality of what’s coming hit me hard. I started to process what it meant to leave the life that we have built here in Stockholm, and shed a tear. I had not imagined that leaving our apartment was going to make me sad. My mind found every way possible to distract myself from processing the emotions involved with such a move. The next day, we were at the boat, starting the move. I found a lot of the things that we had packed at the end of the 2017 season, which of some of my favorite items: the pirate hat and our French and American courtesy flags. We ended up at Ikea, where Ryan hunt for boxes big enough to contain his Millennium Falcon Lego, as well as the rest of his huge collection. Ikea’s biggest box wasn’t nearly big enough, and we left as soon as we could. I bought a knife magnet, that will hold the knives in a corner of the galley, and make them more accessible and safer to access. Very happy with how the galley is turning! I found myself wrestling with the cushions in order to put the covers back on, and play a game of Tetris to figure out where went what cushion. At the end of the day(s), Polar Seal is starting to look like herself again. We are exhausted, stressed, and a little panicked about the life change. We are also super excited about it!!! I can’t wait to visit new countries, meet new friends and visit my hometown in my own sailboat. Pretty cool I think :) Ryan realized right as we were speaking that the tour is passing through my hometown right when we plan to be there, which will be the occasion for him to realize one of his lifetime dreams: spectating the tour! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout) 🎥 Photo & Film gear Our camera: https://amzn.to/2KyC8mi Image stabilizing lens: https://amzn.to/2Kiq89i Our microphone: https://amzn.to/2Ix8MQd Microphone windjammer: https://amzn.to/2KeEmYS Our action camera: https://amzn.to/2Ky8IBS Our drone: https://amzn.to/2tDjRdU 🌊 Foul weather gear & Equipment Foul weather jacket: https://amzn.to/2lGSzyW Foul weather pants / Bibs: https://amzn.to/2N6AF5h Life jackets /PFB: https://amzn.to/2INKJNk Ryan’s foul weather jacket: https://www.hellyhansen.com/en_us/skagen-offshore-jacket-33907 Sophie’s middle layer jacket: https://www.hellyhansen.com/en_us/aegir-h2flow-jacket-33905 ⚠️ Disclosure: Some of the links above are affiliate links. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Upon arrival to this new island, we were completely wow'ed. We already have a good feeling about Barbuda and we've barely seen the place yet. Riley joins his mate George for a spearfish and I agree to drop him off in the boat and go back to Cocoa Bay around the other side of the island and anchor by myself. It's funny how after 4 years I've never had the opportunity to take La Vagabonde anywhere solo. It's always been the two of us, or Riley solo sailing while I take care of work on land etc etc. It was an incredibly empowering feeling trusting in myself to do what I already knew I could do, but was a little too scared to take that step and try. A shout out to all the solo sailors out there! I think you're all amazing. Next goal of mine is to take on the deeper water and miles! We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
Are we still sane after 5 weeks away from land?! Come join us on a passage as we almost run out of food, dodge container ships, fix broken sails enroute, host some local wildlife and make landfall for the first time in over a month! ________________ We hope you enjoy our videos and adventures. We take Latty through the Panama Canal! Adam unfortunately has to leave for a week of work, so to keep the boat moving we have some amazing visitors fly all the way from New Zealand to come and help us transit her through this man-made marvel. While Adam buggers off, his parents and I also get to work repainting the bottom of the boat… For the 3rd time! Yes we had a bad job done in the UK, then we didn’t get enough layers put on the second time in Greece (our fault for not requesting more – lesson learnt!) and hence it was peeling off sooner than anticipated due to our excessive miles and usage. We have now applied a hard anti-foul that should last all the way to NZ and can tolerate a bit more scrubbing and use. We are then joined by a friend of mine from NZ, Renee, who is on her own travel adventure, taking a year off from working. Adam’s parents friends Christine and Lindsay have also flown up to complete this epic transit through one of the greatest canals ever built. A once in a lifetime opportunity! Typically only for cargo and large shipping vessels, this canal is the only way to cross from the Caribbean to the Pacific side without going a very long way South... Sailing yachts are put on a list and fit into the cargo ship schedule where room allows. Such a cool experience that we are so grateful to have done. Another massive bucket list tick, it was gutting to not have Adam there to share it with us. We got through safely and are so glad to be able to share such an extraordinary engineering masterpiece with you all ☺ Check out the video above and let us know what you think by liking or subscribing.
