Graham Jarvis wasn't seemed to be affected with the unfortunate Campoo X-Treme and did his part on day 3's event "The Lost Way" in the most spectacular way possible. Furthermore it wasn't the best start but he kept his head down and stay focused all race long and yet again he was the first to the finish line! No matter which course you're sailing on the south end of Antigua, there is always going to be a beat upwind. We pick up on Day 4 of race week, Lay Day. No sail planned, but instead lots of games and competitions at the beach. We arrive later in the afternoon, but are still able to catch tug-of-war; beer drinking; and the bikini competition. The following day, on race day 4, we are amped and ready to sail, but the winds have lightened more than we were hoping. Running out to the east end of Antigua we miss a few squalls and pass a catamaran in the group ahead of us that demasted. Luckily everyone aboard was unharmed, but our spirits for the day sunk a little as we crossed the line in 5th place. Race day 5 started with a delay, but that just gave us a chance to hang out at the harbour entrance and watch the parade of race boats come out. Our finish for Antigua Sail Week was a long beat upwind, and we came over the line in 5th place once again, putting us in 4th place overall for race week in the Club Class. The next day we get back to boat work with Jessica jumping in to do a bottom cleaning. It is her first time using a hookah system, and she enjoyed it so much that bottom cleaning may be her new job. We fly back to Fiji! After over 24 hours of travel and the worst experience with an airline I’ve ever had we are back on Family Circus in Fiji. We lose ‘Nono” in LAX, have major drama with Fiji Airlines and I almost get denied boarding. Air travel always seems so much more hectic than sailing. Or maybe I’m just misremembering what sailing is like… Sorry for the late upload, my laptop charger died almost the instant we landed in Fiji and there were no replacements in the country! Luckily we were able to get a new one sent from Canada that arrived only a few days ago. I’m looking forward to sharing more awesome footage now we’re back on the water in Fiji. We’re excited for more adventures and to host two new crew joining us next week from Germany. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. What happens when you invite your English cousins on a boat holiday and a massive storm hits the same afternoon? A baptism of fire (or water?) luckily it didn't last long and we were able to show our Bristolian family the joys of sailing on Nikau around the stunning Maddelena islands in Sardinia as well as the awe inspiring clifftop town of Bonafacio just a short sail away in Corsica. We were able to teach the cuzzies some things about New Zealand and they in turn won us over with their cute accents and what we like to call 'Bristolianisms' - enjoy! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! As a homeschooling family, the kids and I are often on-the-go. We're not always perfect in how we eat while out and about, but my goal is to always provide snacks and meals that are healthy, as zero waste as possible, and budget friendly. I try to avoid individually packaged snacks. Also, Shane and I are strict with our plant-based diets, but let our kids experiment with their food options, especially when out and about.
