Your Sail boat and life hang on your anchoring system/anchor Tackle when you are sailing around the world, cruising full time on a liveaboard sailboat. Its important to consider and maintain your ground tackle! This includes the deck under your Windlass, Windlass servicing, buying new anchor chain, and then carefully choosing the best anchor swivel, shackles. and anchor/rode (anchor Tackle). Last time, Patrick ripped out the fiberglass deck on our sailboat to find the balsa coring wet and rotten, and he replaced it with solid fiberglass. This week, he re installs the Lofrans Tigres Windlass, after changing the oil, replacing a gasket diy, and mounts the Windlass. Our new anchor chain is a high quality, calibrated hot dip galvanized anchor chain shipped from Maggi Chain USA called Aqua 4, a G40 Chain, (grade 40) which has been tested and certified to the highest standards. It is made in Italy under tight quality control, not in a Chinese factory prone to cost cutting and short-cutting. Our Manson Supreme Anchor, along with our Mantus anchor swivel will be shown in a future episode, also not Chinese made. Patrick shows how he marks the chain with paint every 50 feet so we know how much chain has been let out when we anchor. We wanted NO cheap Chinese Anchor Chain on our offshore sailboat, sailing around the world. We crossed an entire ocean for a year; the Indian Ocean, so that we could buy it from http://maggichainusa.com, and have it shipped to us in Richards Bay, South Africa. We would not buy Chinese anchor chain! We only found anchor chain made in China while in SE Asia. But we have witnessed First world marine products made in overseas factories. Even with European managers, quality control is just not consistent. Anchor chain made in China will never go on SV Brick House. ourLofrans Tigres windlass was also made in Italy and has performed flawlessly with regular oil changes and maintenance, and this year a new gypsy to accommodate 3/8" anchor chain. Maggi Chain USA sent us calibrated windlass anchor chain, made in Italy. There is another brand their sister company offers called LaClede Chains made in the USA...and both are extremely high quality anchor windlass Chains made in first world countries, NOT Made in China! We would simply NOT have anchor chain made in China! If anything were to go wrong, we have a reputable company with a high level of service to work the problem with. Maggi Chain USA stands by their products, and bent over backwards making sure our anchor chain made it safely to us, all the way to South Africa. Later in this great sailboat diy video, Patrick shows how he secures the bitter end of the chain, Marks the lengths so we know how much has been put down on the ocean floor, and how he moves the weight of the chain far aft to cut down on weight in the bow. We also dump our old rusty CQR anchor with no replacement anywhere in sight! We like having two anchors on the bow, for emergencies, but until we find the right anchor, we will simply survive with our reliable Manson Supreme anchor. Mantus Marine also makes a lot of good products including our anchor swivel and Mantus chain hook, so maybe we will get a Mantus Anchor....or maybe another Manson Anchor product, or something else we will stumble upon in our Sail around the world. Time will only tell...but we will never buy Chinese if we can avoid it! ************************ Please start your Amazon shopping here; as an affiliate, we may earn a commission from any purchase you make in the next 24 hours after following this link : https://amzn.to/2K9MmuA ✘ Recommended Ground Tackle/Marine Products ✘ https://amzn.to/32YqF5c (Anchor Swivel for 3/8 inch anchor chain) https://amzn.to/2nb4sS6 (60 pound anchor though NOT in Stainless Steel ) https://amzn.to/2In0T2y (An Anchor we STRONGLY Hate!) http://www.MaggiChainsUSA.com (DISCLOSURE: A Discount was provided to us for inclusion in this video. We rescued Lola 10 months ago in the Dominican Republic. But we haven't been sailing once in all that time, so this was our first chance to get Lola out on the water!! And meet up with some really cool peeps who have a boat pup of their own... Despite the added challenge of living a nomadic lifestyle with a puppy, she is the LIGHT of OUR LIVES, and we wouldn't want it any other way. (and I'm pretty sure she's stoked about it too) Ps. You have to check out Knot Vanilla's YouTube. They are just getting started with the boat and the channel, but these guys are the real deal and a blast to hang out with. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6TaMyfXlUwiA6tqMgUcvpQ/videos For more Bums, visit our website ~ https://bumsonaboat.com If you'd like become part of our journey, check out our Patreon page ~ https://www.patreon.com/bumsonaboat We also do the social stuff, like Facebook & Instagram ~ @bumsonaboat
Wanna know how to change a transmission oil seal? Check out how I did it on my sailboat. My Transmission oil seal had been leaking for a while and I finally decided to change the seal. Unfortunately, I did not have the right tool to do the job and had to go on a hunt for it. Two hours later, I did not only have the tool but also the man knowing how to use it on baord 😂. Enjoy and ahoy, Nike & Karl Download the full movie at www.UntieTheLines.com You can support our videos here: www.patreon.com/WhiteSpotPirates or https://www.paypal.me/whitespotpirates For real-time updates, visit: http://www.facebook.com/whitespotpirates http://www.instagram.com/whitespotpirates For background information on the journey visit www.WhiteSpotPirates.com Thanks for watching, liking, sharing and supporting these videos! Every little bit helps! --- This is NOT a live documentary! There is a time difference between filming and publishing due to the time it takes to send data home, to edit the episodes and to internet not always being awailable on those little remote palm tree islands :)
My dad often speaks of life in chapters. When one chapter ends, the next begins, and this video really sums up our emotions as we approach the close of 2 chapters in our adventures. Our passage sailing from the Ragged Islands in the Bahamas is the close of a 10 year chapter of Delos returning to the mainland USA. The crew is a little emotional because we also know that this will be our last time sailing together with just the 4 of us. When we return to Delos in a few months Karin and I will be with our lovely little daughter Sierra! We start out motoring across the shallow waters of the Bahama Bank, and are able to do some pretty cool filming with the GoPro on a boat hook showing our keel slipping through the shallow waters. I break out our sextant and have some fun seeing how close to the GPS position we can get our our noon sites. We are down to our last onion and a quarter tomato by the time we make landfall in the Florida Keys! Fair winds and hope you enjoy- Capt. We are getting farther up the hull with the planking and as we do so, we are nearing the point at the stern where the propeller shaft will go through. We need to get this hole bored before we plank past it because we are going to need to be able to align our bore perfectly level (our shaft is level to the water line). Before we start to bore though, we want to make sure that we have all the pieces made and ready to be installed so that everything can go right in after the hole is ready and nothing will move before we get a chance to instal. We will be reusing Victoria's exterior fitting for the cutless bearing but also need to make a fixture on the internal portion of the stern post to accept the stuffing box. There are no fittings that enter and lay on the stern post at the correct angle we have, so, we are going to be making our own with our Bridgeport milling machine, metal lather and help from our good friend Joe! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. We are ending one chapter and starting a new one! Ran sold and we're packing up all our things to ship to Sweden and get ready to leave what has been our home for the nearly past 5 years. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Hello Friends, This is our first gear review video! The water shoes company Aleader ( http://bit.ly/2Zl7rZq ) contacted us about possibly doing a review of their shoes in exchange for a pair of shoes for each of us. As I explain in the video we were already shopping for water shoes and agreed to check them out and if we didn't like them we would simply send them back. So far we think they are great but the real test will come on Catalina Island soon as we sail over for a weekend of diving. Check out the video for all of our thoughts on the Aleader Water Shoes. If you are interested in buying a pair you can get a 15% discount by using the code ( SAILORJAMES15 ) on their website. http://bit.ly/2Zl7rZq Aleaders Youtube page can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsdYimAT-fuhntgpdKNXiqg/videos Let us know if you have ever used these shoes, we would love to hear your thoughts about them down in the comments! SAILING FIJI'S TROPICAL PARADISE - LIFE OFF GRID A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis This year we weighed up whether to sail from NZ to Fiji or to Vanuatu. The final decision was made easier by Rob's desire to visit the Lau group and in particular to visit Vulaga, the jewel in Southern Lau's crown. Up until about 10 years ago it was difficult to get a cruising license to visit this area. These are very traditional islands and the government wanted to keep it that way. A change in government brought about a change in cruising permits. Now every boat that sails to Fiji may visit this area. From one or two boats a year Vulaga now see's over 100. Their busiest day last year saw 30 boats arrive in the lagoon. Although the villagers enjoy the boats arriving and say that this doesn't effect their lifestyle, it is bound to have some impact. And although we are part of the problem we just couldn't help ourselves wanting to be immersed in this perfect little postcard of community bliss. International Finn Cup - Trofeo Andrea Menoni . Malcesine September 27/29. At the 2nd wwm of race 3.
In contrast to their tail end of the fleet finish in Marstrand in July, Nico Poons and Charisma showed the way around the race track on the opening day of the 44Cup Cascais, posting a most respectable 2-1-2. While today Charisma, the 2018 44Cup champion (and winner the last time the high performance 44ft long one design long monohulls visited these waters last November), seemed to be the stand-out team, in fact they finished the day just one point ahead of Team Aqua. Chris Bake’s team, which currently holds the 44Cup’s ‘golden wheels’ as overall 44Cup leader, claimed today’s final race and had nearly as consistently good a day as Charisma, posting a 3-2-1.

Installing a Tides Marine mainsail track on a Nicholson 31 to make setting and reefing easier with less track friction. It used to be called Strong Track but now they refer to it as "sail track and slide system". Cost in 2019 is $29 per foot of track length and includes standard slides. Various size batten cars are available at extra cost. Contact: https://www.tidesmarine.com/sailtrack/intst_overview.php

Building a cruising sailboat The deck boxes are basically complete, which marks a major milestone in this boat build - the last piece of plywood on the exterior of the boat... well, except for another piece on the cockpit floor, that is... The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony
