Learning how to do your own boat maintenance saves you a lot of money - it's time for Mac Gyver. In this video Mario will show you how repair a broken door handle without buying a new one for 50 €. I'm pretty sure the door handles from other boats are similar easy to open and repair. If you like this DIY video, please give us a thumb up and leave a comment. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Sea Ray 440 - Soundproofing Boat Engine Compartment with Soundproof Cow - Motor Yacht Cruising Video
Boating Maintenance does not always have to be difficult if planned correctly. With two large Marine Cummins Diesel Engines as well as a Westerbeke Diesel Generator the sound levels in the cockpit have been unbearable. Soundproofing the boat engine compartment is critical. We are replacing 1994 heat insulation on our liveaboard with 2019 Sound Dampening Technology which includes a heat shield and sound shield from SoundProof Cow a leading soundproofing company. This should make our Small Motor Yacht Cruising more enjoyable in Palm Coast Florida. We hope you enjoy this Motor Yacht Cruising Video.

In this video, we are looking at our own boat, Polar Seal, our Beneteau oceanis 40 from 2007, and how much it cost us to buy her, how much we pay in maintenance and insurance each year, as well as our monthly marina and fuel budget. As someone pointed out in the last video, the costs associated which each of our boats are the results of choices that we made! Today, we’re giving you a look into our choices: in what context we bought our boat and the criteria we had before buying her. We then give you a quick tour our boat and talk about how she is equipped. If you want the absolute full tour of the boat, I’ve made a 20 minutes video that shows all her corners, which you can check out also at the link above me. In this video, we’ll also talk about what we think are the pros and cons of our boat, and will end by telling you how much she cost us to purchase, to maintain and to cruise. Hope you find it useful! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). This flagpole mount will work, the solar flagpole light is great. We had to do some minor repairs to our flagpole mount, no better time to do a review for all you patriotic viewers out there. Flagpole Mount We got the flagpole mount at Lowes for just $10, seem like a great deal if it would hold up for more than a few months. It may just be Florida and the high winds we see here, but I this if I was going to do this again, I would have just got the Amazon flagpole mount below, for about the same price. The teeth on the Amazon mount would bite more as you tighten it. This video continues on from episode 72 as we finish our trip to Marathon, Florida. We found ourselves motoring through calm seas with little to no wind as we passed under the Seven Mile Bridge and made our way into Boot Key Harbor. We knew this destination was popular in the cruising community, but found the harbor to be a little too crowded for comfortable anchoring. We decided to anchor out of the harbor and continued working on boat projects. If you saw our most recent Delayed Casual Friday video, you know we have been planning to redo our salon cushions for a more comfortable sleeping situation. In this video you will see us create two of our new cushions. What is the soul of an old boat? We believe it has to do with all the people she has touched and the journeys they have experienced. All this shows in every detail and aspect of an old boat. It would be a great disservice to Victoria if she were simply cut up and sold for scraps. We plan on lovingly transplanting as much of her body and soul into Arabella. This is the start of this journey. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. The number one question that we get asked is "how much does it cost the sail the World?". The same way that living in a house or an apartment, the cost of cruising depends on many factors, which of one major: the very boat that you sail. In this 3 parts mini series, we answer the question “How much does it cost to cruise" on different boats, because different boats = different sailing budgets. Generally speaking, you could divide the cost of cruising into 2 categories: The expenses related to owning and sailing the boat full time, and the living expenses. In these videos, we will solely focus on the expenses related to the boat. We will compare the cost of ownership and the cost of cruising a McWester Wight 32ft Ketch from 1974, our Beneteau Oceanis 40 from 2007 and an Amel 54 from 2007. In this first video, we take a closer look at Marky Warren's boat, a 32 foot MacWester Wight Mk2 from 1974 named Roamer. Before diving in the costs, Marky Warren gives us a boat tour of his sailboat, tells us about the level of comfort she offers and how it is to live and sail her full time. We then dive in the market value of the MacWester Witght 32 ft ketches, the annual cost of maintenance, the monthly marina budget and fuel as well as the cost of insurance. Hope you find it helpful! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** GEAR ** ⛵️Our boat: Polar Seal, 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 40, owners version (2 cabins layout). The Lava Charter team talk about sailing around the local westerly Canary Islands, including tips and advice on itineraries. Manager José Carbó and maintenance supervisor Binio will also run through an onboard check-list, identifying how to prepare a boat for setting out to sea. Sailing involves developing a profound technical understanding and skill set but also enjoying some of the finest pleasures life has to offer. Safety on board and at sea should always be considered a basic priority and the key to enjoyable cruising.

This park is nice, we had a fabulous time, a lot to do for most everyone. Our camera missing up so there is missing footage, but there is a playground for the kids and a great fishing pier. What we loved the most about this park were the boardwalks through what looked likes jungle. When walking the boardwalk you may come across love rocks, if you have another love rock you can replace that one with yours. We thought that was really neat and offers something special for our youth to do or the young at heart. We did not see too much wildlife while there, but have been told and seen pictures of the evidence. Grey Preserve James E. Grey Preserve is a New Port Richey city park that preserves 80 acres along the Pithlachascotee River. The park is completely surrounded by an urbanized area - making it a special treat for local residents who want to experience natural surroundings. A variety of recreational facilities are available, including a picnic area, kayak launch, boardwalk, and easy hiking trails. The Pithlachascotee River, known by locals as the "Cotee River", is a blackwater stream with headwaters at Crews Lake that flows through the Starkey Wilderness Preserve, past the Grey Preserve, and through downtown New Port Richey, before flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. The river is navigable by kayak or canoe up to a point about a half mile upstream from Grey Preserve. Its meandering course along the southern boundary of the preserve is a beautiful stretch to paddle or hike along and is a highlight of this park. Entrance to the park is off Plathe Road just west of Little Road. Gates are open from sun up until sun down each day. The gravel entrance road into the park winds past the kayak launch area and continues to a large parking area near the picnic shelters and playground. There are four covered picnic shelters and a large event pavilion available for use by the public. Restroom facilities are located in the picnic area. There are two miles of nature trails winding throughout the preserve, including a loop trail that circumnavigates an isolated bayou. A half-mile long ADA accessible boardwalk extends amidst the floodplain of the river and ends at an overlook of the Cotee River. This is a popular spot for fishing or an occasional glimpse of a dolphin or manatee. #chrisdoeswhat #dininginwithdanielle #homaidchef

Karl is back in the water after welding his belly up and some other problems that needed fixing. Maria, Manny and I take off to a trial run to the Las Perlas islands and a beautiful 40+ gales comes up right on time to test all the fixes we did in yard. All good so far! After Manny went back home again, Maria and I take off to head back to Vista Mar Marina to get our sailboats Karl and Joana ready to head down south to Ecuador. Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Watch us mount our newly certified Viking life raft using the pulley method. (Without dropping it in the ocean). We recently had it repacked and certified (every 3 years) by AirSeaSafety in Charleston SC. They are top notch, but of course, instead of letting the professionals mount it, we chose DIY. We had grown tired of the noise from the Jabsco water pump so decided to see what we could do to make it quieter. Stephen being a 30 year veteran and expert in the industrial pump business, knew that the type of pump being a simple diaphragm pump was going to be noisy regardless, however with a little sound proofing, we thought we could at least make it a little more bearable. Anyone that has a pump like this knows that you do whatever you can to not use the water! You let only a trickle out of the faucet in hopes that you can avoid at least one pump cycle to refill that reservoir and maintain the prime. We think we succeeded a little - not perfect, but at least an improvement. We ended up putting a different more expensive pump in and now it is super quiet. Future video on that coming. It's the Marco UP6 E12/24V , 6.9GPM, Self Priming. It was worth the extra money. Following Simon Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/finding_simon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/findingsimon Website: http://simonstiles.com/ Asking Simon - Who are you?
In this Episode; Part 2 We're up a River with lots of paddlers if need be! Tricky navigation continues as we motor up the Sittee River, past the silty shallows of the river's mouth where we worry about getting stuck, to a tropical and chilled out marina near the town of Hopkins Belize. This is our first time taking Saltair 3 up a river and it's a gorgeous trip! We welcome our first guests aboard to share the experience of learning to sail a big Cat and what it's really like living a life on the Sea. A week long adventure of learning to sail, getting a taste of what it’s like living on a catamaran in the Caribbean, how we make our power and our water, and how we provision, cook, diesel maintenance and more… all while exploring the amazing Belizean Barrier Reef! We had a great time, made some great friends and shared our lives a step past our videos... They came as strangers to us and left as great friends, although they had a pretty good idea of who we are before the came Lol! This video shares some of the highlights of that first trip… I hope it doesn’t feel like an advertisement, it wasn’t made in that fashion. Simply an opportunity to share with the world, more of the adventure, and that’s what we are all about… Sharing the Adventure! Please SUBSCRIBE and tap on the NOTIFICATION BELL! You too can spend an all inclusive week with us aboard our catamaran Saltair3 learning how to live a life on the sea and leave a small environmental foot print, how to prepare, repair, provision, catch fish and lobster, how to safely check into foreign countries and learn to sail a Big Cat, or just sit back, relax and enjoy being aboard Saltair3 in the warm and beautiful Caribbean Sea. (Ep.64) We run our windlass cable as well as our gas piping. We paint our last coat of paint on the interior. Our engine gets hauled away and we get some bad news about her. On a brighter note, we install our awesome formica counter tops & install our nuovarade hatches as well. We also take the measurements for our beds and saloon cushions & choose our material. We all know what happened on our last passage... and if you don't you can check out vlog #69: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5dSK4NIS_w It's safe to say that this passage was the exact opposite of our last. It was extremely calm, we were well prepared, and it went very smoothly. We are bound and determined to not make the same mistakes twice, so this time around we made sure we waited for the perfect weather window, did our research about all potential stops and anchorages along the way, and didn't go into an unknown inlet at night. We stood off until the morning to make the final approach to Marathon. Also, in this video we put up the first phase of our lifeline project. It's not fully complete but they're at least functional for now.
