In diesem Jahr ging auch erstmals eine deutsche Crew im Boot vom WIRSOL TEAM GERMANY KIEL.SAILING CITY an den Start. Der iShares-Cup der Extreme-40-Katamare ist eine internationale Segelregatta, die 2009 zum dritten Mal stattfand. Nach Venedig, Hyères und Cowes hat das beeindruckende Schauspiel bereits zum zweiten Mal in der schleswig-holsteinischen Landeshauptstadt Station gemacht, die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer im vergangenen Jahr mit ihren Bedingungen begeisterte und von Extreme-40-Steuerfrau Shirley Robertson als „beste Etappe 2008 gelobt wurde.

Ziel des Trainings ist der Gewinn an Erfahrung, Kompetenz und der sichere Umgang mit der Yacht auch in schwierigen Situationen, wie z.B. bei einer Nachtfahrt oder bei Notmanövern. Skippertraining ist Bordpraxis in ständig wechselnden Rollen und erfordert, sich selbst und die Crew auf Manöver vorzubereiten, ruhig und souverän zu führen und sich an der Vorleine, am Fender oder am Ruder führen zu lassen.
