I have been obsessing over owning a sawmill for several years now. One of my original plans was to build my own mill from steel stock and engineered components, and this is something that I will likely still do...but...when I stumbled accidentally upon the Central Machinery band saw mill from Harbor Freight, and after researching the product thoroughly, I was convinced that it made terrific sense to give it a try. It arrived by tractor trailer and in this video, I un-box it, assemble it, demonstrate it cutting a log, and give my initial redneck review. After only about 15 or 20 minutes of using it, I am thoroughly impressed and would highly recommend this mill to anyone needing a solid, accurate mill for home or hobby use. Kawe Island is one of the islands of the Raja Ampat area that is located on the line between the beautiful Wayag Islands and Waigeo Island that houses the Capital city of Waisai. There used to be a mining operation on Kawe, but it was recently abandoned for one reason or another. The operations center, with housing for personnel stood eerily quiet. About a mile or two from the mine on a little island there is a survey marker and a monument right on a little beach marking the exact latitudinal line of 0 degrees, 0 minutes, 0 seconds: The Equator. We did a great scuba dive with our friends Jan and Laura at a place called One Tree Rock (a dramatic rock formation above and below water). Nice fish action and scenery and just as it was time to go up, Laura got to see her first Wobbegong Shark, one of Raja Ampat’s famously weird underwater species! Filmed in October 2014.

One of the most fun and dramatic things to do with a sailboat is to sail thru Kabui Passage. The Pass is a river-like waterway running between Gam Island on one side and Waigeo Island on the other. The changing tides cause currents to run thru the pass, sometimes at several knots, either west-east or east-west. We made our passage with “ Sloepmouche” our 46ft Trimaran, on a very light west-east current and had some great scenery as you’ll see from the Go Pro mounted on the mast. It’s a great way to enter Kabui Bay, as you pass by dramatic Karst rock islets with the afternoon sun at your back! Filmed in October 2014.
