Près de 10 000 km2 - plus de 18 fois la superficie de la lagune de Venise - pour cette étendue d'eau que tous ici appellent la mer.... Comparée aux rivages peu hospitaliers de cette partie du littoral brésilien, la lagune offre des conditions de navigations idylliques dont les habitants profitent largement. La créativité d'Adriana n'a pas de limite pour transformer les rebuts de la pêche en parure pour femmes. Pour les pêcheurs de la lagune, Yemenja est la déesse de l'eau. Entre l'Uruguay et l'Argentine s'étend le Rio de la Plata, un énorme estuaire qui a ses règles bien à lui. C'est une mer couleur café au lait, truffée d'épaves gisantes dans quelques mètres d'eau. Les navigations demandent une attention particulière aux sondes et aux vents. Cette première vidéo s'intéresse aux sondes. Le Rio de la Plata est soumis à une petite marée qui ne dépasse pas deux mètres, mais les hauteurs d'eau dépendent surtout du vent. Dans la pratique, les deux facteurs doivent être calculés si l'on veut éviter l'échouement... fréquent.

Unweit der Kuang Si Waterfalls hat sich ein Niederländer mit seiner Frau einen paradiesischen Platz in einem kleinen laotischen Dorf geschaffen: die Butterfly Farm. Nicht nur das Schmetterlingshaus sondern das gesamte Grundstück wurde mit unglaublich viel Kreativität und Liebe zum Detail geschaffen. Somit genossen wir die Nachmittagsstunden sehr! Am meisten begeisterten uns die handflächengroßen Schmetterlingsarten und der Dead Leaf Schmetterling, welcher von außen wie ein abgestorbenes Blatt aussah. Sobald dieser jedoch seine Flügel öffnete, offenbarten sich seine wundervolle Farben. Das niederländische Paar hatte wirklich an Alles gedacht: wir konnten uns im Schmetterlingshaus auf zwei Stühle setzen, Schmetterlinge um unsere Köpfe kreisen lassen während Knabberfischchen unsere Füße im Wasser bearbeiteten. Herrlich! Auch den Kaffee mit dem Inhaber sollte man sich nach dem Schmetterlingshaus nicht entgehen lassen. Mit besonderem Humor kann er Geschichten aus seiner Reisezeit erzählen und ein Fotobuch zu seiner Bauphase der Butterfly Farm vorzeigen. Gleichzeitig unterstützt man mit seinem Besuch noch ein Bildungsprojekt, denn das niederländische Paar bietet Kindern der Region Naturschutz und Biologie Unterricht an. World Sailing will a launch a bold ambition for sailing’s contribution to global sustainability at its Sustainability Agenda 2030 Forum in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on Tuesday 7 November 2017. Sustainability Agenda 2030 is a series of 59 targets spread into six different areas which are; technical standards, events, training, venues and facilities, members and participation. Priorities and where the sport aims to be in 2030 will be outlined by Mike Golding, World Sailing Sustainability Commission Chairman, and complemented by industry experts. Followers will be encouraged to join the debate and conversation using the #UnitingOurSport on social media. Just over eighty nautical miles away. Close enough to contemplate a day-time passage if you have a fast boat. Tanda Malaika set off at first light but unfortunately did not make it in before dark. After the sun set they collided with the reef at the southern tip of Huahine. The Navionics SonarCharts were wrong. The reef, visible in the regular setting of Navionics, disappeared when switched to the Sonar charts. At night the breaking waves are invisible until it is too late. Sadly all of these factors saw Tanda Malaika run into the reef in the dark. Needless to say, we opted to for a safe and slow overnight passage to put us into Huahine in daylight. With just the genoa up, we were on alert. Alert to all the dangers we face out here on this big blue ocean. We've seen it twice now on our travels through the south pacific; Cruisers colliding with reefs in the middle of the night. Under full sail. Under the assumption that charts are accurate. It's awful and heartbreaking. Dreams destroyed in seconds by a violent collision with a reef. Every time the results are complete and total destruction. Rudders ripped off. Sail drives sheared. Keels pushed up through hull. Life trajectories altered permanently. It sends shivers through our spines seeing these wrecks. It could easily have been us. Sometimes it's as simple as not zooming in far enough on a map. Other times it's trusting one map over the other. Our hearts go out to the crew of Tanda Malaika. Dangers aside, Huahine has beautiful crystal clear waters and is well protected all the way around by that "barrier reef". A very nice feature if you are planning an epic dinghy ride.
