The November issue of YM contains advice on how to cope with life in a liferaft. Before putting pen to paper, technical editor Chris Beeson took a yacht from La Rochelle into the Biscay swell, and with winds reaching Force 7, he jumped off the boat and into a four-man liferaft. YM's happy snapper Graham Snook was on hand to get the pics and took the video camera along too. The footage from onboard the liferaft is truly stomach-turning.

This clip was recorded in 2003 and taken when we had reached exactly half-way across the Atlantic Ocean. The sunset was incredible and I was completely blown away by the idea of being as far away from land as I'd ever been in my life. This is apparent in my bumbling, nervous commentary. We've gone on about Knidos at great length, and it features in this movie section a few times too, so here's some evidence of why we keep going on about it! This clip had to be edited because everywhere we turned there was another relic or ruin or structure. It was too much to take in so this is just a little example of what Knidos is all about.

One place that we visited often in 2005 was Gumusluk. We took every visitor we had there and everyone loved it's ambiance. Unlike the other resorts on the Bodrum Peninsular this one was not spoilt by development and loud, crap music. Chris and Jamie donned their walking boots and took a hike up to the top of Knidos peak. The reward was a breathtaking view in both directions, with the low sun in the west and views back across Mersincik towards the north.

Just to prove that I'd done it, I recorded the moment I got the third sail up on my tod. As I say in the clip it may only have been 4 knots and the fenders were still out but it was quite an achievement for someone who has only been sailing for two years. When old friends Rus and Fiona came to visit we were introduced to the 'I Like It Here' dance, a kind of tribal ritual that has to be carried out whenever one feels the need to express one's delight upon discovering a new place. This is a very important ceremony that must be executed with complete dedication. In this clip you'll see three experts carry out the 'I Like It Here' dance with great gusto. We were very fortunate to arrange for one of our friends to board another boat and film Esper under sail. Although the camera work is a little shakey in places (it was his first time using the cam) this still gives you a great idea of exactly what Esper looks like under sail: stunning. When Liz and I sailed to Kazikli we had dinner at one of the two local restaurants. This one allowed us to take dinner on a floating raft where we were able to pull ourselves along a cable out to 'sea'! When we needed table service, however, a little local lad had to jump in his oversize dinghy and row the second bottle of red over to us! Many dorado were caught on our Atlantic crossing and this is us bagging our first catch. It's a tiddler but it puts up a bloody fight.
