A video to say goodbye to 2018
Please Support the Channel at https://www.patreon.com/spartanoceanracing In this Episode I organize the equipment container we found at CMN in Cherbourg and discover all sorts of interesting parts, spares and literature that gives this project a very solid chance of being successful. I also move the boat to CMN ready for loading her first move in a year and only her second trip in 12 years- amazingly she ends up back on the very dock she was launched from after being built by JMV in 2000. When you live in a sailboat you want to make it feel like home. Which is why we attack some of the old and dusty sailboat cabin cushions and install a new portlight in the galley. Plus work on a few other boat projects. #sailing #boatcushion #wildlyintrepid #portlight Want to know how we did it? Hissy Fit, more used to performance racing, lends herself beautifully to creating the perfect setting for a two family holiday. Fun and sunshine as they cruise our beautiful southwest UK coast.
One of our first glimpses of Dazcat 1295, Slinky Malinki, engaged in some serious racing, and she does extremely well coming in 3rd in class. Meanwhile D1495 Hissy Fit who is also racing has a crew consisting of two children under five and a grandad of some greater age! There are also some more able bodied crew aboard to help her round and all rise to the challenge beautifully as she match races against Slinky Malinki all the way around. Some stunning scenes of the spectacle that is the iconic Round the Island Race with over 1000 entries.
A short and mellow video with relaxed sailing and some glimpses of life aboard as Dazzla crosses back to the UK. The legendary 87 year old Mike Butterfield, president and founder of MOCRA, is on board. Dazzla was sold as 'structurally complete hulls' and finished by the owner.
Belladonna (D10) and Hissy Fit (D1495) are out enjoying our beautiful coastline and the great racing combination of sailing, running and rowing. Hissy Fit comes in first in class.
Sueños, more accustomed to serious performance racing, has fully converted to a cruiser to take her family off on some adventures. Here, they are in the Canary Islands enjoying warm seas and light winds.
This three day race is one of our firm favourites. Not least because it gives some of our Dazcat family a chance to meet up and socialise. We normally expect it to be a blustery and wet affair, so early in the year, but this year we were treated to scorching hot sunshine and very little wind. Many of the boats retired on some or all the legs as the pub was calling, but still we managed to have a great deal of fun. Belladonna (D10) our oldest and smallest racer came in 1st overall.
If you are a lover of great stories then this one is for you. Meet Rupert and Isa and find out some of their inspiration for their upcoming cruise and why it's called 'Ollie's Journey'.
Dazcat Sueños sets off from Plymouth to Portugal on leg one of Ollie's Journey. Enjoy some beautiful scenery and see how this performance racing boat has lent herself so well to the cruising lifestyle!
The inside passage to Alaska has been paddled by native canoes since time immemorial. It’s in the spirit of tradition, exploration, and the lawless self-reliance of the gold rush that the Race to Alaska was born. R2AK is the first of its kind and North America’s longest human and wind powered race, and currently the largest cash prize for a race of its kind. It’s like the Iditarod, on a boat, with a chance of drowning, being run down by a freighter, or eaten by a grizzly bear. There are squalls, killer whales, tidal currents that run upwards of 20 miles an hour, and some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. You, a boat, a starting gun. $10,000 if you finish first, a set of steak knives if you’re second. Cathartic elation if you can simply complete the course. R2AK is a self-supported race with no supply drops and no safety net. Any boat without an engine can enter. Last year 37 teams were accepted and 21 finished. Graham Shaw was 1 of the 21 and he shares his story. Find out more about podcast content and sailing opportunities: https://www.oceansailingpodcast.com
Some how this seems to have become a tradition, so sorry about that, but this is our 2018 Christmas special. And if any one out there is able to make our dreams come true then please feel free to get in touch :-) We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. Florida's nickname is "The Sunshine State" Not always true in winter, as you can see. We were anchored on our Skoota 28 powercat at Peck Lake, just south of Stuart. A strong cold front passed through and we had squalls/rainbows/wind for two days. Pretty miserable for all the boats at anchor
In this episode, we take a closer inspection of what could have caused the potential overheating issue encountered off the cost of Mexico. We learn a few new things about our fresh water cooled Yanmar 2GM20F and take care of a couple of maintenance items. Also, something is amiss with the prop..... Problem solved?
This week we have the first unknown crew on board and a fun and exciting week from Valencia to Alicante. Unfortunately a part of the crew is cancelled and leaves again, but Klaus masters the week excellently without his wife Gabi on board. Thank you both for this super positive experience! You have time and would like to go sailing with us? You want to be part of our journey? Write us an eMail to sailing.seatramp@gmail.com and we'll see if we can do it! From January we are in the Caribbean and most time we have a free cabin.
