Our very first catamaran experience, we chartered a 52 Lagoon in BVI to see if we liked catamarans. OH boy - did we! We visited the Baths on the island of Virgin Gorda in BVI and enjoyed wandering through the maze of boulders, waterfalls and sandy spots. Lunch at the restaurant on the hill overlooking our catamaran anchored in the harbor wasn't bad either:-)

For this passage, I had the help of a good friend with A LOT of experience who wanted to bring his new girlfriend onboard. I had thoroughly prepared our 100 nautical miles passage to our winter spot, and my only concern was how I was going to manage interpersonal relations onboard. My friend was older than me, had so much more experience than me as a sailor, and I had no idea who his girlfriend was. And I did end up having to deal with some crew problems. The navigation itself went really well, and we enjoyed a beautiful sail along Costa del Sol in Andalusia. But a few hours after we left the dock in Estepona, the girlfriend asked to be dropped off the boat, which I wasn’t expecting at all. That was the beginning of a less fun time onboard for all of us, which I talk about in this video. By respect for my friend and his girlfriend, I excluded their names and any clip showing them. Although I do have footage of the actual disagreement, I chose not to include them, as the purpose of this video isn’t to show drama, but rather to share the lessons I learned from this experience. My friend and I are good, and this was definitely not the last time that I skipper Polar Seal. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

Sometimes instead of just building things we need to build things that will fix other things. This week was one of those weeks. The wardrobe we built a few weeks ago ended up too heavy and it warped on the center of the span. So the challenge this week was to come up with a solution so the wardrobe sits straight on it's place. #buildingaplank #buildingboat After 20 days at a bumpy anchorage we are finally allowed to go into the Marina. As The ARC just left for their crossing the Marina has space for us and all the boats on the anchorage. So now we are able to start all the maintenance on the boat to get ready to cross the Atlantic. We start with replacing the hob in the galley, we build a fibreglass plank, instal a battery monitor as the one from Lagoon doesn’t give any accurate information. We also prepare a boom preventor and a MOB lift in case we need on our crossing, it’s just good to be prepared for anything we can think of. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. Like the time I ended up blindly following a guy we'd just met with my family into the middle of the jungle on a small island in Vanuatu and we ended up face to face with the skull and thigh bones of some guy who'd been eaten by the natives. National titles and the opportunity to represent Australia at the upcoming Youth World Championships in Poland will be on the line from tomorrow, as the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania gets set to play host to the 2019 Australian Youth Championships presented by the Australian Maritime College.
