The Tattersalls Cup was presented to Matt Allen and the Ichi Ban team on board the boat this morning.

Matt Allen speaks about the challenges that Ichi Ban faced in crossing three complex transition troughs during the race.

Ichi Ban’s navigator Will Oxley describes how they strategised to transition through the two troughs that largely dictated this year’s race tactics. He also talks about sail strategy, polars and the critical importance of staying in the sails’ sweet spot.

Will Oxley is not only one of the world’s best ocean race navigators, but he’s also a meteorologist and marine ecologist. So we asked him to talk about the complexities that the recent bushfires presented to forecasting for the race. Will’s response started with the big picture of climate trends and how this is changing the nature of this famous race.
