86 MAKE MY DAY - Potjie in Paradise

It was time to do a Potjie again. Together with a Cobb and a BBQ. With a group of cruisers and live Swedish music. We get the lyrics in Swedish so we can all sing along in Swedish. We visited the annual Porto Santo wine festival in town with our regular group of cruisers. As always there is also live music. We tried some of the wines, but the ponchas are tasting much better. During the Catholic holiday of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, there is a procession of penitents. Walking with rather somber music, They carry a statue of the Virgin Mary to the church up in the mountains. This holiday celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary’s body and soul to Heaven. During the procession there are fireworks exploding. Just a big bang with no flash. Never did learn the purpose or symbolism of this. The procession is a lap that begins and ends at the church. The church bells are ringing as the procession returns. Afterwards there is a big party with live music and drinks. Hope you enjoy!
