#optimist #sailingdinghy #dinghystand #optimiststand #optimiststore #dinghystore #dinghystorage Our optimist dinghy travels everywhere with us, but it's bulky - so how do we do it? Carrying on the davits is unsafe on ocean crossings and our RIB is stored on the aftdeck when on the open sea, so that space is spoken for. The foredeck is the only practical place to store it, but it prevents the hatches from opening. What we needed was a cradle/stand that keeps it stable and secure on deck, but also allows for the hatches to open. The optimist also needed to be stored upside down, to prevent it filling with rain water or sea water when the foredeck gets swamped. We also wanted the cradle/stand to be stored out of the way with a minimum of fuss when not in use - like when we're at anchor and the optimist is in the water - which meant a minimalist/collapsable design. The solution was to create two cross brace supports moulded top the shape of the deck. While we've travelled thousands of miles like this, the foredeck does look a little 'cluttered' and the lines holding the optimist down can be a bit of a trip hazard. The kids have also outgrown the optimist a bit now so it's getting less use. So the next upgrade on our long 'wish list' is an inflatable catamaran like the 'Grabner Happy Cat' or 'Smart Cat' which we tried in Spain.. and are super fun as well as seemingly practical to store. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

The 17th edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 got underway in spectacular fashion from Fort Charlotte, high above Antigua’s Pillars of Hercules. In classic 15-knot trade winds, a fleet of 56 boats set off on the 600-mile challenge around 11 Caribbean islands. Five clean starts launched the fleet into immediate battle. In IRC Zero, Rán and Daguet 5 went head-to-head beneath the cliffs, while in Super Zero Leopard 3 and Black Jack 100 reignited their 100-footer rivalry from the gun. The multihulls wasted no time either, with Argo accelerating clear and setting the early pace. Tactical shifts, tight pin-end duels and high-speed drag races defined the opening miles — but with 600 nautical miles ahead, the real test is only just beginning. #RORCracing #Caribbean600

In the week that Thailand falls under marshal law... the top coat is now being applied and the masts look like new. Goy's paint team are working on various lids and covers too, leaving just the topsides and deck to paint. That won't be until the toe-rail 'cuts' have been smoothed and the cockpit box finished though. Meanwhile the cockpit seats are complete and the varnishers are doing a fantastic job on the floor.
