Ilhabela, Brazil, is a great island with so many different places. We started this week in Saco do Sombrio, where we got 150 squids, and we sailed back to Saco da Capela. We explore the Island of Ilhabela a little bit and then we drove to Guarujá to fix our rudder quadrant and we visited some good friends, Reginaldo, Fred and Ramiro and Gika from Força Maior. Roberta cut our friend's hair and we learned how to clean and cook a fish called Baiacu Arara, that is a delicious fish. Here, we had an impromptu opportunity to tour a quite new Dufour 430 sailboat that was currently being chartered but for sale by the owner. It’s a nice example of a modern production boat. Not a heavy ocean sailor but a fun inshore cruiser. Fit and finish was quite good and it would make a nice way to gunkhole around the Chesapeake Bay for weekends aboard. Longer passages wouldn’t be out of the question, but the smaller size would limit room for a genset, although a jobsite type gas powered generator might work. Cette fin d’après-midi ressemblait à beaucoup d’autres au mouillage. Nous rencontrons une famille qui voyage aussi en voilier avec un petit garçon de deux ans. Très vite, le courant passe : les parents discutent pendant que nos enfants jouent ensemble sur Morrodub. Un moment simple, comme il y en a souvent en voyage. Nous ne le savons pas encore… mais ce sera la première et la dernière fois que nous les verrons. Quelques heures plus tard, en pleine nuit, leur catamaran prend feu au mouillage. En très peu de temps, l’incendie devient incontrôlable et le bateau finit par couler. Dans cette vidéo, on vous montre les images irréelle de ce qu’il reste du bateau le lendemain. Une histoire qui rappelle à quel point tout peut basculer rapidement en mer.
