First part of the video was filmed from a Windsurfer chasing the iFly. Andreas Hansen, new iFLY owner and Hobie 16 sailor about his first iFLY sessions in Kos, Greece: « The scene where we wear helmets (annotation: at the end of the video) was our very first session on iFly. Due to previous persistent 6-7 Bft. we didn't dare going out with the new boat in the first few days of our vacation. - We had never foiled before. Then, on the fourth day, the wind was force 5 Bft. and the tingling in the fingers was greater than the worry that we might be completely overwhelmed and what the boat could do to us?! We went out with helmets and of course staff of the water sports center followed us curiously with the motorboat. After about 20 minutes of trying it out, we managed to be quite stable in flight mode. What is unusual for a die-hard Hobie 16 sailor is the direct control with the smallest deflection and the fact that the lee hull can go up first or how you land safely from the air into the water again. These are simply different speeds at which the foiling boat moves forward. During our sailing in Kos, with often strong winds (5+ Bft) sideshore, we sometimes had waves of 1.3 meters outside of the bay. IFly's automatic flight control system had it's hands full and it is working surprisingly well in those rather rough conditions. When heading with the wave, after sailing up the wave and having reached the “breaking edge”, the crew gets a thrilling view of the wave trough, always with the hope that the boat will not fall down those 2 meters. To our greatest surprise, iFly was able to handle those situations very well. We only observed some very rare, short spinouts (annotation: those can be avoided with some experience). The automatic elevator system is a huge help for us Hobie sailors, who sometimes just love to fly fast above the water or just chase wind surfers 😉. Salut les loulous🛖⚓ Aujourd’hui, matinée consacrée à la préparation du bateau : remplissage des cuves à eau et fin de la réparation du moteur hors-bord avec la dernière vidange. Tout est désormais opérationnel pour la traversée. Départ de Los Cristianos en fin de matinée, cap sur La Gomera. La mer est maniable mais le vent reste irrégulier sous l’effet des accélérations entre les îles. Nous atteignons un premier mouillage près de San Sebastián de La Gomera, mais la houle résiduelle le rend rapidement inconfortable : le bateau roule trop . La décision est prise de lever l’ancre sans tarder et de longer la côte à la recherche d’un meilleur abri. Après quelques milles, nous découvrons une petite plage bien protégée au sud de l’île. L’ancre tient parfaitement sur un fond propre et la mer devient nettement plus calme. Nous profitons de cette escale pour débarquer et faire une courte randonnée. Le sentier mène à un ancien village abandonné, figé dans le temps, avec ses maisons de pierre et ses terrasses désertées. L’endroit dégage une atmosphère à la fois paisible et mystérieuse. La météo confirme notre bon choix : un vent établi autour de 35 nœuds souffle de part et d’autre de l’île, générant des zones agitées, mais notre mouillage reste parfaitement abrité. This week we say goodbye to our beloved Bocas del toro, we have stayed for almost 2 months and we have loved every minute of it but now it's time to continue. Having 5-6 knots of wind coming out of Bocas we decided to try out our spinnaker for the first time! We don't have all the tools to fly it yet, but after Kieran mounted the spinnaker pole and some adjusting, she was up. First time for all of us and the feeling was incredible, we felt like we could take over the Pacific. I wasn't feeling crash hot the next day when my sea sickness took over. There is only a few things that helps in that stage, and one of them is dolphins. Reaching Colon and Shelter Bay, the storm hit us and the sky opened.
