Sea turtles live in the ocean, but they don't have gills, so how do they survive underwater for so long? Here are some surprising facts that every ocean lover should know: ? 1. They Breathe Air, Just Like Us Sea turtles have lungs, not gills, so they must surface to breathe. ? 2. Incredible Breath-Holding Abilities When resting, they can hold their breath for 4 to 7 hours. While swimming, they come up for air every few minutes. ? 3. Super-Fast Breathers They only need 1-2 seconds at the surface before diving again! ? 4. Nighttime Adaptation While sleeping, their heart rate slows down dramatically-conserving oxygen and allowing them to stay underwater even longer. ? Want to See Sea Turtles in the Wild? After years of being career focused, we decided it was time to shake things up and sought a lifestyle that would provide us with new experiences, humble us, allow us to visit remote locations, and experience new cultures. In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te T?iko, a Chico 40. After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024. This would be Vicki and T?iko's first ocean passage and Adam's third. We have since sailed to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, where we will be during the cyclone season. We fund our lifestyle by working part time. This sometimes involves returning to New Zealand to help top up the bank account. The other avenue is through our content creation where we document our journey though YouTube videos and our our social media accounts and website. We would love for you to follow our progress as we navigate a nomadic lifestyle. If our content is something that you enjoy, please consider supporting our channel. Adding an umbrella for a little shade and comfort on the deck of the 18 foot sailboat. A table fits nicely on the center post of the umbrella and the heavy base keeps it from moving around.

Golden hour hits differently from the wooden deck of a classic pinisi sailing through remote tropical waters. There's something about the warm breeze, the rhythm of the waves, and a sky melting into pinks, golds, and soft orange that just stops time. Bare feet on sun warmed teak. Salty air in your lungs. Nothing but sea, silence, and soul level calm. No crowds. No traffic. Just sunset therapy, the kind you can't book at a spa. ? This is what slow travel is all about. Can you picture yourself here? ?
