The Omikron OT-60 takes a very different approach to the traditional motor yacht, combining the space and convenience of a powerboat with the quiet, easygoing character of a sailboat. Designed around efficient long-range cruising, she offers generous living spaces, excellent visibility, and a hull designed to make extended journeys as comfortable as possible. In this sea trial, filmed in Lavrio, Greece, we put the OT-60 into some genuinely challenging conditions. With around 25 knots of wind, gusting to 30, and a short, steep sea with waves consistently over one metre and larger sets reaching several metres, this was the perfect opportunity to see how she performs when the conditions get tough. This particular OT-60 is fitted with the optional twin 370hp Yanmar engines, giving her considerably more power than the standard engine options. We look at her ride quality, handling, comfort, stability, engine noise, and overall performance in the rough water before eventually opening the throttles to see what she can really do. Whether you're considering the OT-60 for long-range cruising, extended time aboard, or simply looking for a different approach to motor yacht design, this test gives you a chance to see how she performs when the sea is anything but calm. As always, the goal isn't to tell you whether this is the right boat for you, but to help you understand what the OT-60 was designed to do and whether it matches your own boating lifestyle. In this episode, we move our 43ft aluminum sailboat out of the shed using just a forklift, pallet jacks and a couple of skates, and then lift and level it on its new cradle. One huge step closer to installing the keels and rudders and getting this boat in the water! ___________________________________________________ Support our project: ► http://www.patreon.com/oddlifecrafting (Get instant access to extra content) ► donating through PayPal using: oddlifecrafting@gmail.com ___________________________________________________ ** Links and contact information ** For business inquiries: oddlifecrafting@thestation.io Our private email address: oddlifecrafting@gmail.com 👨👩👦 We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dreams creating this youtube channel to document our journey. The final dream was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started building a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finishing the house we found a boat that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her. We sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean). Then we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. Right now the dream is happening and we are building a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life with our son Oli. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Six months ago, he was sleeping in his car with almost nothing left. Today, he wakes up on his own sailboat in the Caribbean. This emotional sailing documentary follows one man’s journey from losing his job and apartment to finding deckhand work, learning to sail, restoring an old boat, and taking his first solo voyage. It is not a story about an easy life. It is a story about starting again when everything feels lost. If you are going through a difficult time, remember: rock bottom does not have to be the end of your story. What would you do if you had to rebuild your life from nothing? I couldn't believe how well it sailed. You could have some serious fun with this, especially in big breeze." -------------------------- ** The Tiwal story ** * The Birth of Tiwal * As a girl, the first time our founder Marion Excoffon was told, “No!” by her father when she asked to use the family boat, her life as an inventor began. It was then she started dreaming of building her own craft, an ambitious feat that would come true years later. On the road to creating an innovative high-speed vessel for everyone from kids and first timers to expert sailors who want to test limits, there were a number of prototypes, failures, challenges and headaches. But, if there’s one thing Marion’s known for, it’s her sailor’s grit! * Combining Fun & Technology * The award winning Tiwal concept is easy assembly and storage - maximum fun and performance for watersports and activities. A Tiwal isn’t your average dinghy! Our design is the result of tons of coordination, talent, and technological savvy. * A Growing Global Community * For our community of Tiwal skippers (more than 3,000 worldwide!) all this innovative design means their focus is fixed on the pleasures of watersports and having tons of fun on a responsive sailing craft. With excellent upwind and downwind abilities combined with high-speeds, Tiwals are a part of both fun and professional performance. The Tiwal 3 received the Boat of the Year (Best innovation) Award 2014 from Sailing World in the USA and the Red Dot Award, with recognitions, accolades, and smiling faces continuing to join together on the waves worldwide. A small detail that makes a big difference on the water. At the Perth Boat Show, PG takes us aboard the new Saxdor 400 GTS to demonstrate the telescopic swim ladder fitted by Saxdor at factory level. What sets this ladder apart is the integrated pop-up handrail system. As the ladder is deployed, the handles rise into position, giving you a secure point to hold as you climb out of the water. It is a simple design feature, but an important one for both ease of use and safety, whether you are swimming, diving or need to reboard unexpectedly. Available in a range of lengths, widths and mounting configurations, including under-platform, in-platform and top-mounted options, the system can be specified to suit a wide variety of vessels. Beautifully engineered and made in Italy, it is marine hardware designed to make life onboard safer and easier. Come and see PG and the Gineico Marine team at the Perth Boat Show to take a closer look. @perthboatshow @bia__wa @saxdoryachts https://zurl.co/NPMDV #GineicoMarine #PerthBoatShow #Saxdor #Saxdor400GTS #MarineHardware #SwimLadder #MarineEquipment #ItalianMade #BoatDesign #MarineSafety #BoatingAustralia #AustralianMarineIndustry
We’ve crossed the Bay of Biscay and made it to Spain 🇪🇸⛵️… but now there’s something else on our minds — ORCAS! 👀🐋 As we continue our family sailing adventure aboard Sea-Kat, our Lagoon 410 catamaran, we start making our way down the Spanish coast — an area where sailors have reported encounters and interactions with orcas. 🇳🇿🇺🇸 // “We’re paying a heavy price for it” While the daggerboard IMOCA MSIG Europe was never in the same league from the start on this transatlantic run, the Kiwis were determined to fight tooth and nail to stay attached to the fleet. Unfortunately, the J2 furler failure precipitated the inevitable. And it came with a steep price tag. To repair the drum on deck, Conrad and Elie spent no less than 2.5 hours working in wildly unstable conditions and a rough sea state. “Of course, that’s the exact moment the front swept over us. When I felt the rain start falling, it just broke my heart. We were heading North to repair, instead of making easting... As a result, we got completely uncoupled from the weather system. The other boats had no issues. They kept blasting ahead, locked in ahead of the front.” Now dropped into a different air mass, the chances of closing the gap on the pack are slipping away, leaving the crew to play their own hand. But it will take a lot more than that to dent the morale onboard. By claiming a great 3rd place in yesterday’s “Super Sprint”, Conrad and his crew proved they’ve got plenty of resilience and won't be giving up!
We met Benny from Zilla jetboats on the project one day when he wondered down to offer help. Before we knew his crazy abilities we hand balled him the task of building the missing hub for our helm. He built it to perfection AND cut a bee into it for some personal flare, which Phoebe loved! We later learned that Benny had watched our videos from the Innerbloom days! He was a real Day One. Ben has been dying to get us out on the jet boat he builds all in house at Zilla, he knew how much fun we would have and he wasn’t wrong. This is such a ridiculously wild way to enjoy the water, if I had to compare it to anything it’s like riding a dirt bike on single trails. This is the sort of mate that builds an indestructible boat, throws you the keys and says ‘go for it’. We did and we couldn’t be happier to share an episode of jet boat fun and adventure with you after the last year of flat chat hard yakka! Hope you enjoy getting out to have some fun because it’s back into work action next week! Yahoooooo!
