We enjoyed visiting Saint-Tropez! It is actually just a small seaside resort with 6,000 inhabitants, originally a fishing village. But because it is so picturesque and loved by artists (Matisse, Picasso) and the beau monde, it has 5,000,000 visitors a year! Particularly helped since the 1920s when Saint-Tropez was a magnet for international fashion stars and later the movie stars of the 1950s (Brigitte Bardot). In winter the town seems almost deserted (restaurants closed, tourists and luxury yachts gone) and the atmosphere of the past is once again breathed. We liked the city of Saint-Tropez, it has a beautiful old center with small streets, a citadel and nice pastel-colored shops. In this video you see the 3 harbors of Saint-Tropez: the regular harbor, the fishing harbor with small boats and the superyachts marina on the quay where everyone walks by to marvel at the chandeliers and huge flower arrangements on board. And 8 staff who are cleaning the stainless steel railings of the boat all day long, so that the ship always looks great when the owner arrives. It's nice to see the contrast between the small wooden fishing boats that should have been painted 10 years ago, and the hip million-dollar yachts. Because the harbor here is prohibitively expensive for 'normal' boats, we anchored in a quiet little cove just before Saint-Tropez. Nice view from this cove towards the city and the boats!

After checking in with customs and immigration we decide to stretch our legs and explore the old lighthouse that James thinks the English built! We then head off to explore Hogsty Reef which is a unique horseshoe coral atoll located about 40 miles from the nearest land. We drop the hook behind a sliver of land and plan to stay the night.

As inscrições para a 48ª edição da Semana Internacional de Ilhabela foram abertas na semana passada para as regatas de 24 a 31 de julho no no Yacht Club de Ilhabela (YCI), em parceria com a Prefeitura de Ilhabela. Depois de um ano de ausência, a principal competição da modalidade na América Latina deve reunir mais de 100 barcos espalhados em seis classes no litoral norte paulista. As inscrições são feitas pelo site www.sivilhabela.com.br para os veleiros nas categorias ORC, RGS, Bico de Proa, Clássicos, C30 e HPE25. O evento também terá regatas virtuais como no ano passado e rígido protocolo de segurança em função da COVID-19. Em 2021, o primeiro a garantir presença foi a equipe do Silvertip, do comandante Walter Adoglio, que fica na Represa do Guarapiranga, em São Paulo (SP). O veleiro é um Skipper 21 e está inscrito na classe RGS. Nas anteriores, o velejador correu com o barcos Squalus. O segundo mais rápido no gatilho nas inscrições foi o Bravo, de Jorge Berdasco. O veleiro é um Skipper 30 (30 pés) e medirá na classe ORC. ''É o campeonato mais importante que participamos com o Bravo, seja pelo número de participantes, como também, pelo nível dos barcos e tripulações. O retorno às regatas é cercado de muita expectativa e de vontade por parte da nossa tripulação''. Nos anos anteriores, o Itajaí Sailing Team foi o mais rápido nas inscrições para a Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela. Apesar de perder 'no click' a hegemonia, os catarinenses garantiram presença nas regatas a bordo do atualizado S40. O barco de carbono está inscrito na classe ORC e chama atenção nas raias pelas cores laranja e azul. After having enjoyed Tenerife to the max, it really is time to set sail again! But… The last weeks strong southerly winds have tormented the Canary Islands. This so called ‘Calima’ contains sand from the Sahara. It paints the sky, and Zeezot, orange-brownish. Sailing South was impossible. That’s why we had to stay in Garachico a bit longer. But once the winds calmed down, we pulled up the sails and finally found our sea legs back!With still a lot of sand in the sky, the snow covered El Teide, though looking mystically pretty, soon disappeared behind a curtain of silk. Within a few miles we couldn’t see land anymore and it looked like we were far out in the open ocean. The conditions for sailing into our first acceleration zone could have been better… Join us and discover where we sailed to!
