We stopped at the Queen’s Bath and Glass Window Bridge in Eleuthera during high tide with 15–25 knots of northeast wind, and the Atlantic side was absolutely exploding over the rocks while the Caribbean side was calm — an incredible place to see the power of the ocean. The wind was forecast to build throughout the day and the Glass Window Bridge was eventually closed, but for us the bigger concern was timing our departure to make it through Current Cut at the right time with wind and current lining up. This one tested us 😅 We took on the steep and slippery climb up Isabel de Torres in Puerto Plata—and it was no joke. Muddy trails, sketchy footing, and a serious leg burn… but the view at the top made every step worth it. Sitting above the city with a mini botanical garden and that iconic statue, it’s one of the most rewarding hikes we’ve done in the Dominican Republic. We made it down just before sunset and headed into historic downtown Puerto Plata for dinner, soaking in the colorful streets as well as umbrellas and local vibes. Back in Luperón, the adventure didn’t stop. We explored Playa Chiquita with unique wooden sculptures, and hiked out to a hidden blowhole and coastal cliffs—one of those wild, off-the-beaten-path spots we love. Then it was time to check out of Luperón… and get ready for what’s next. In this episode of Mothership Adrift, we find ourselves anchored in the Maldives with a growing problem — our steering system isn’t working, and the solution isn’t immediate. While we wait, the wind begins to swing west and build, turning our once peaceful anchorage into an exposed and increasingly uncomfortable place to be. With conditions deteriorating, we make the call to move. That means rigging up the emergency tiller, working as a team to haul up the anchor, and carefully navigating through tight coral atolls to find shelter.
