Have you discovered oil under your Yanmar engine, especially around the raw water pump? That's exactly what happened on our Yanmar 4JH4-E. We noticed an oil leak beneath the engine on the raw water pump side and traced it to the raw water pump gasket. In this detailed DIY (NOT) tutorial, I show every step of replacing the gasket, inspecting the impeller, and dealing with one of the trickiest parts of the job - removing the timing belt. I deliberately filmed the repair slowly so you can clearly see each step if you're doing this maintenance yourself. The best part? After completing the repair, we put it to the test during our sailing trip aboard Indara, our Najad 380. ✅ More than 60 engine hours later, the engine remains completely dry with no leaks whatsoever. Dabei entsteht durch eine Ungenauigkeit beim Messen eine ganz schöne Pantera-Schmiererei. Und ob der neue Durchlass dicht hält, wissen wir auch noch nicht. Viel Spaß beim Reinschauen! ----- Moin! Wir sind Rika und Johannes aus Hamburg. Zusammen mit Rikas Schwester Julia segeln wir mit unserer Maxi 84 nach und nach durch die Dänische Südsee, um unsere Segel-Skills zu erweitern und das tolle Wassersport-Revier zu erkunden. Von den vielen kleinen Inseln und dem teilweise klaren Wasser sind wir immer wieder fasziniert. Die Ostsee-Törns sind definitiv unsere Highlights. Normalerweise trefft ihr uns jedoch auf unserem Heimatrevier direkt vor unserer Haustür an: Der Außenalster in Hamburg. Denn, wir haben uns im April 2021 einen Kielzugvogel gekauft. Mit dem Holzboot ist auch unsere Segel-Leidenschaft gestartet. Zwischen April und Oktober genießen wir also das Segeln auf der Knysna [ˈnaɪzna] (so haben wir unseren Kielzugvogel getauft, nach einer Stadt in Südafrika benannt). . Im Herbst 2023 haben wir uns einen weitern Traum erfüllt und uns eine Maxi 84 gekauft. Diese wurde von uns Ende Oktober 2023 nach Kiel überführt. Seit dem widmen wir uns im Winterlager auch diesem schwedischen Segelklassiker, im Sommer erkunden wir die Dänische Südsee. Can a simple rubber snubber really make a difference when anchoring a yacht? In J-Log 190, Jenny looks at the benefits of adding a rubber mooring compensator to our anchor snubber and why such a small piece of equipment can make life at anchor noticeably more comfortable. When a yacht is anchored in stronger winds or a choppy sea, the movement of the boat can create sudden shock loads through the anchor snubber and chain. Adding a rubber snubber provides extra elasticity, helping absorb some of those loads before they are transferred to the boat and anchoring system. Jenny explains why we use one aboard our yacht and how it can help reduce snatching, noise and sudden loads on the anchor gear.
