After spending a season onboard “Moments in Time”, we developed a list of things we needed to change before starting this season. We previously addressed the propane tank swap out in the last episode. In this episode, we will address the not so quick through hull deck hose connects and disconnects. The intent of these deck through hull fittings were to allow hoses to quickly connect and disconnect. But in reality, there is nothing quick about it, unless you have super human strength. If you are on the foredeck and wish to connect a hose, you must go into the saloon and turn off the water pump, go down into one of the hulls and turn on the water until there is no pressure, go back to the foredeck and use the quick connect to hook up the hose, then go back to the saloon and turn the pump back on, go back to the foredeck and use the hose, and then repeat in reverse to disconnect. There is nothing quick about that, in fact it was such a pain in the ass that we did not bother last season. At this point, just give us a normal hose hookup and a spigot . . . What!, could the solution be so simple? The whale fittings made everything plug and play. No more muddy anchor chain in our locker anymore. JUNGLEFEVER is a very well maintained and significantly updated and upgraded example of what was Hanse’s flagship in 2010. Designed by Judel/Vrolijk as a fast and very spacious family cruising yacht, she excels in her design brief. A spacious owner's suite lies forward, two excellent guest suites aft, a huge saloon and cockpit under which is a garage for her tender. This particular example has been in private ownership since new and never chartered. Much of her life was under the care of a full-time skipper. Her current owner purchased her in 2025 but has found he simply doesn’t have the time she deserves. He further improved the yacht’s ease of handling by adding a stern thruster, she already had in-boom furling which was fitted in 2016. The standing rigging was replaced in August 2025 and the mainsail is from 2023. Her decks were replaced in 2022 when Raymarine Axiom electronics were also fitted along with new hi-end audio equipment. Her hull was painted in light grey and is in excellent condition. The inventory is very comprehensive in-boom furling, retractable thrusters, full a/c, a hydraulic gangway and water-maker all make life aboard luxurious and comfortable. Viewings are unreservedly recommended. We’re deep in boat reset mode — clearing out clutter, reorganising storage, and tackling a big system upgrade onboard our liveaboard catamaran. We live on a 1976 Catalac 9M that's been converted to a fully electric boat. All our energy comes from our solar panels and we use it for propulsion, cooking and even making water! Segeln wird oft als gemeinsames Abenteuer geplant, aber viel zu selten als gemeinsames Projekt mit klaren finanziellen Regeln. Genau hier setzen Clemens Stecher und Claus Aktoprak an. Sie sprechen darüber, warum der reine Charterpreis nur ein Teil der Wahrheit ist und weshalb viele Segeltörns im Nachhinein für Frust sorgen. Nicht wegen des Wetters, sondern wegen des Geldes. Ein zentraler Punkt der Folge ist die Unterscheidung zwischen sichtbaren und unsichtbaren Kosten. Zum Bootspreis kommen Transitlog, Endreinigung, zusätzliche Ausrüstung, Nationalparkgebühren, Liegeplätze, Diesel und Versicherungen. Diese Kosten lassen sich relativ gut im Vorfeld kalkulieren, werden aber oft nicht sauber kommuniziert. Komplexer wird es bei jenen Aufwänden, die nicht auf einer Rechnung stehen. Zeit für Planung, Organisation, Buchung, Ausbildung und Verantwortung der Skipperin oder des Skippers. Auch wenn diese Leistungen im Freundeskreis oft freiwillig erbracht werden, gehören sie zur ehrlichen Kostenbetrachtung zumindest gedanklich dazu. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Bordkasse. Unterschiedlicher Konsum, Restaurantbesuche, Alkohol oder spezielle Essgewohnheiten führen schnell zu Spannungen, wenn vorher nicht darüber gesprochen wird. Die Hosts zeigen pragmatische Lösungen auf und plädieren für Transparenz, Fairness und einfache digitale Tools, um Diskussionen zu vermeiden. Am Ende bleibt eine klare Botschaft: Segeln wird nicht günstiger, wenn man Kosten ignoriert. Aber es wird entspannter, wenn man sie kennt, offen anspricht und gemeinsam entscheidet, wie damit umgegangen wird.
