ur Cornwall adventure took us to Boobies Bay, Constantine Bay, and Treyarnon Bay — three stunning beaches on the north Cornish coast. We thought we’d struck gold, finding a quiet little lane to park just a couple hundred metres from the beach. From there we set out to explore: • At Boobies Bay, the tide was in, so we missed the shipwreck that’s sometimes visible at low tide. • At Constantine Bay, surfers filled the water, enjoying perfect waves. • At Treyarnon Bay, we spotted an artist perched on the rocks, painting as the tide crept dangerously close to his feet! The day ended with a little surprise — on trying to leave, we discovered the gate to the lane was locked. It turns out the road belongs to the golf course and is actually a paid car park… whoops! Luckily, someone arrived and let us out. 📍 Locations: Boobies Bay, Constantine Bay, Treyarnon Bay — Cornwall, England 🎥 Features: • Exploring Cornwall’s north coast beaches • Surfers and seaside atmosphere • Shipwreck at Boobies Bay (when the tide allows!) • Artist capturing the view at Treyarnon • Parking mishap with the golf course 💡 If you love Cornish beaches, coastal walks, and quirky travel moments, this one’s for you.

Please feel free to contact me at any time day or night and I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully earning your business. 1-(619)-507-4416 ivtyachtsales@gmail.com http://www.ivtyachtsales.com The FP41 is the perfect blend of elegance, performance and habitability. A true lesson in design: the horizontal lines of this compact 41-footer catamaran have been stretched to offer levels of harmony and elegance usually only seen on much larger models. This well-canvassed catamaran certainly knows how to lengthen her stride on long passages, while remaining fun and easy to handle close to the shore. The deck layout incorporates the double helm and manoeuvring station so popular on all the other models in the range: the skipper now has a pod housing all the instruments. As for the crew, they will find new areas for relaxation: sun loungers on the bimini and forward of the coachroof, not forgetting the ingenious lounger integrated into the port transom.

Why Choose the 1985 Mercury Cruiser (Electric)? This retrofitted 1985 Mercury Cruiser offers a unique blend of vintage style and modern eco-consciousness. Its electric setup is ideal for short, slow cruises (e.g., harbor tours or calm bays), and the $5,000 price point makes it an accessible project boat. However, the 5-hour runtime at 4 knots limits its range, and the original design may not handle 10 people comfortably (more suited for 6-8). It’s a great choice for environmentally conscious boaters or those interested in experimenting with electric propulsion. Below are the links to the equipment used and specs of the boat. Solar Panels https://amzn.to/4mlCGKb M - Series battery switch https://amzn.to/47RsAgB Batteries 12V https://amzn.to/420CMQa Power inverter 5000w https://amzn.to/4nIUZKD Year: 1985 Original Manufacturer: Mercury Marine, in collaboration with various boat builders (e.g., Chris-Craft, Carver, or other OEMs), produced cruisers under the Mercury Cruiser or MerCruiser branding. These were typically equipped with MerCruiser sterndrive engines. Current Configuration: Converted to electric propulsion with a solar panel array, offering 5 hours of runtime at 4 knots. Market Value: $5,000 reflecting its age, condition. Length Overall (LOA): Likely 25-30 feet, based on the size relative to surrounding boats and typical cruiser designs of the era. The exact length isn’t specified, but the cabin and deck layout suggest a mid-sized vessel. Beam: Approximately 8.5-10 feet, common for cruisers to provide stability and interior space. Draft: Around 2.5-3 feet with a sterndrive, allowing access to shallow waters. Hull Material: Fiberglass, standard for Mercury Cruisers of this period. Displacement: Estimated 6,000-8,000 lbs (dry), depending on the model and equipment. Original Engine: Typically powered by a MerCruiser sterndrive, such as a 5.0L V8 (305 cubic inch) or 5.7L V8 (350 cubic inch) gasoline engine, producing 200-260 HP. The 4.7L V8 mentioned doesn’t align with Mercury’s catalog (the closest is the modern 4.6L V8 outboard from 2018), so the original was likely a different displacement. Fuel Capacity: Originally 100-150 gallons (gasoline), now irrelevant with the electric conversion. Water Capacity: Likely 30-50 gallons, typical for cruisers of this size. Cabin: Features a forward cabin with a V-berth or double berth, a compact galley (sink, stove, fridge), and a dinette that converts to additional sleeping space. Cockpit: Open rear deck for socializing or fishing, with potential for a small table or seating. Capacity: Designed for 6-8 people comfortably, with a maximum of 10 possible if equipped with additional seating and adhering to safety regulations (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard capacity plate). The electric conversion might limit load capacity due to battery weight. Benefits Eco-Friendly Cruising: The electric conversion with solar power eliminates fuel costs and emissions, aligning with green boating trends. The 5-hour runtime at 4 knots is suitable for leisurely day trips or harbor exploration. Affordable Entry: At a $5,000 market value, it’s a budget-friendly option for entry-level boating, especially with the added solar investment ($2,500). Low Maintenance: Electric motors require less upkeep than gasoline engines (no oil changes, fewer moving parts), though batteries and solar panels need periodic replacement or cleaning. Quiet Operation: Electric propulsion offers a silent ride, enhancing the experience in quiet anchorages. Retro Charm: The 1985 design retains a classic look, appealing to enthusiasts of vintage boats. Historical Context In the 1980s, Mercury Marine’s MerCruiser division produced sterndrive engines (inboard/outboard systems) for a range of cruisers built by various manufacturers. These boats were popular for their combination of performance and livability, often featuring V8 engines derived from automotive designs (e.g., GM 305 or 350 cubic inch blocks). The 1985 Mercury Cruiser would have been part of this era, offering speeds of 20-30 knots with its original gasoline engine. The conversion to electric power reflects a modern adaptation, likely replacing the sterndrive with an electric motor and integrating solar panels for charging. Maintenance Tips Solar Panels: Regularly clean the panels and check connections to maintain charging efficiency. The $2,500 value suggests a decent-sized array (e.g., 1-2 kW), so ensure it’s securely mounted. Batteries: Inspect and maintain the battery bank (likely lead-acid or lithium) for charge levels and corrosion. Replace every 5-10 years depending on usage. Hull: Check for gelcoat cracks or osmosis, common in 1980s fiberglass hulls, especially if used in saltwater.

This Oyster 56, 'Ananda of Hamble', is a superb example of a lovingly maintained and carefully used blue-water cruiser. The Oyster 56 is one of the most successful models in Oyster’s history, and for good reason. Its size is ideal for many sailors: compact enough to be handled comfortably by a couple without crew, yet spacious enough to accommodate six guests in complete comfort. 'Ananda of Hamble' offers good sailing characteristics. She is cutter-rigged with an in-mast furling main sail, staysail, Yankee, hydraulic backstay, electric winches, spinnaker gear, and Harken furlers. She is furthermore equipped with a 110hp Yanmar diesel engine, MaxProp 3-blade feathering prop, 10hp bow thruster, twin alternators, Westerbeke generator, and full suite of Raymarine electronics. Further to that, a water maker, sprayhood, bimini, multiple protective covers, life rafts, dorade vents, sun awning, davits, tender with outboard engine, and much more. The 56 also offers generous on deck stowage, making extended living aboard both comfortable and organized. Below deck, the Oyster 56 presents a bright, beautifully finished interior, showcasing impeccable craftsmanship throughout. The photographs reveal an interior that is meticulously preserved and in superb condition. The raised saloon is bathed in natural light and offers generous seating. To port, the galley is thoughtfully laid out with ample counter space, while the forward-facing chart table to starboard provides plenty of room for passage planning. The yacht is fitted with an air conditioning system for year-round comfort. The owner’s suite aft spans the full beam, featuring a large double berth, extensive storage, and a private en-suite head with separate shower. Forward, the VIP cabin offers a centreline double berth, a seat with vanity table, and ample storage. Also forward, a guest cabin with upper and lower berths and a second bathroom with toilet, wash basin and shower. A fourth cabin, located to starboard aft of the chart table, provides additional sleeping accommodation with upper and lower berths. 'Ananda of Hamble' is unmistakably an Oyster: thoughtfully designed, solidly built, and beautifully finished. . . . I left my boat three days ago to come to Shimane Prefecture, a Japanese longevity hotspot, more people live past 100 than anywhere else in the country. I came here to work on my book Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan, but also to reflect on what it really means to live well and to finish well. I met a man whose 92-year-old mother had lived independently until just weeks before her passing. Her story reminded me of two women who shaped this journey: my mother and a farmer we called Granny of the Fields, who worked her terraced land until days before she died. My son, Mackenzie Sheppard, captured Granny’s story in a short, award-winning film — a quiet portrait of endurance, simplicity, and purpose. Watching it again here in Shimane, I’m reminded that longevity isn’t about adding years to life — it’s about adding life to years. Back in Shimane Prefecture, a noteworthy Japan longevity hotspot. It's inspiring to witness elderly wisdom and the secrets to aging well firsthand. Reflecting on the importance of health and a long life as integral parts of the aging process in this unique community.
Every Spring the Corinthian Yacht Club opens their doors for the Master Mariners Benevolent Association to hold their Wooden Boat Show. This event gives the public the chance to see these beautiful wooden sailboats and to talk with the owners about why they have such a passion for their boats. Maybe you'll get the bug and jump in.
Staying at Pinnacles Camp Ground, we go cave exploring in Pinnacles National Park. Some great camp cooking! Oh, and we make a pit stop at the amazingly beautiful DAOU winery!
