Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit The Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit is based in two state schools in the Isle of Dogs, George Greens School, and Canary Wharf College. The IOD Sea Cadet Unit enriches young people from the Schools, from Year 7 to 11 (ages 11 to 18) sailing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Windsurfing in the local Royal Victoria Docks and Millwall Outer Dock weekly in the summer term. In the winter we run enrichment trips such as visits, ice skating, climbing and Thames boat trips. We also run RYA courses such as RYA First Aid RYA Sea Survival and Essential Navigation Courses as well as parade and drill sessions. The Unit brings together girls and boys from different schools, backgrounds to learn about each other and new skills and experiences over the long term. They also get the benefits of the training from the National Sea Cadets. This is not a short term fix. It is a long-term Unit to give young people self-belief, social confidence, leaders, team players, skilled, empathy and understanding their peers whilst being positive and motivated. We will take a Cadet at aged 11 and on their journey, they will become Unit Instructors and role models at 16 for the newer Cadets, improving their lives and being more focussed at school. All we ask of the cadets is long term commitment and kindness and willingness to give back to the Unit and School. Although the Sea Cadets Nationally get funding individual Units do not. For the Unit to run each week and all the background work to be done cost £15k pa. This gives the Unit stability, running each week with 30 Cadets and the ability to expand. We also spent around £15k pa on residential trips and our legacy fund. The benefits to the Cadets, School and local community is unmeasurable, the long term approach will break the cycle of poverty, empower local children, give them prospects, enrich the schools and provide a positive role model. We would love you and your company to be part of our journey, you can help by. Funding one of our projects below. Encouraging your staff to be Unit volunteers. We can help by Giving your staff the opportunity to volunteer, be part of the solution locally with long term enrichment, showing a pathway for Cadets for potential employment in your company. Our Projects Legacy Funding We have set up our own legacy program which is open to any Cadet. We will fund 50% of courses and training programs that will lead long term towards Cadets gaining national qualifications to become peer teachers for new cadets. At the moment we have three young ex Cadets who deliver the Sailing and Windsurfing Sessions for the Unit. This peer teaching enthuses new Cadets to follow their path for the future. Competitions We enter regional and national competitions with the Sea Cadets as well as National and international competitions in Sailing and Windsurfing. We have trained regional and national champions within the Unit. Thames Barge Trip with the Sea Change Trust. Having run a successful trip with this exceptional charity in the past we are running a week's residential for ten Cadets in Summer 24. During this trip Cadets will gain RYA Competent Crew and take a full part in the running, navigation and sailing on the engineless Blue Mermaid Barge. Part of our funds will make sure the Sea Change Trust continue with their valuable work. Ellen MacArther Cancer Trust Trip Having skippered for the Trust for the last three seasons we can come up with the idea of chartering the EMCT vessel for our Cadets for long weekends when the trust are not using their vessels. We WILL raise enough money each trip to sponsor a young person with Cancer to sail for a week with the trust. During the long weekends on the Solent we will work through Yachting skills and boathandling giving the Cadets a broad depth of knowledge and enrichment of a residential trip. We have one trip running this year and hope to expand this so we can enrich the Cadets and help fund more children with cancer to sail with the trust. UKSA Sea Program The UKSA SeaChange Foundation programme is a course offered to young people aged 14-17 from disadvantaged backgrounds, that teaches students how to be more confident and resilient, work together with peers and informs them of all the pathways into the maritime industry. This costs £525 inclusive of travel for our Cadets to attend, we hope to 50% fund this with our legacy funding. We thank you companies and people who have helped us so far in our journey and hopefully welcome you on board for the future. Join this channel to get ALL of the RYA course work: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHHQH6jcgluqGjkqQf5iLkw/join

What started as a simple walk to Melincourt Falls in South Wales turned into a mini adventure. The path was blocked just a few hundred metres in — but we climbed the fence, determined to see the waterfall. A massive fallen tree across the path didn’t stop us either. Another fence, another tree… and still we carried on. When we finally reached the falls, we found ourselves completely alone. The water drops powerfully onto giant boulders, creating a place that felt spiritual and serene — worth every obstacle along the way. 👣 In this vlog: • Walking the blocked path to Melincourt Falls • Climbing fences and scrambling over trees • Reaching the secluded waterfall • A peaceful moment with the place to ourselves 📍 Location: Melincourt Falls, South Wales 💡 If you love hidden gems, offbeat adventures, and peaceful moments in nature, this one’s for you.

Often when I am reading books in the Mariner's library I am also hearing the story for the first time myself-  this book however, is different. Shackleton's escape from Antarctica is a story very well known to me and, to be blunt, has nourished my very soul in my  darkest days at sea.  There is no greater tale of seamanship, ingenuity, tenacity & loyalty- there are no greater heroes. This is that tale, told by a man who's skill upon the ocean is perhaps only matched by his skill with a pen; the Master of the 'Endurance', Captain Frank Worsley. If you would like to listen to more about sailing, the sea and regular discussions about safety & seamanship; check out The Mariner Podcast, available on all podcast platforms. https://podcasts.apple.com/in/podcast/the-mariner/id1710667118 To support the production of this material please consider heading over to Patreon. where for $5 a month you can get access to more audio books, videos and discussion. https://www.patreon.com/themariner  Check out also, The Mariner Youtube Channel - where we have gear reviews, how to videos, seamanship training videos and on the water reports from all over the world. Copyright : “lost soul “by Bliss Columns Were Made to Look Like Plants Egyptian columns weren’t just plain stone—they were designed to look like plants from the Nile, especially papyrus, lotus, and palm trees. The idea? Temples were like re-creations of the primeval swamp from the beginning of time, where life first emerged. So walking into a temple = walking into creation itself. 2. Each Column Was a Mini Story Columns were covered in hieroglyphs, images of gods, and pharaohs’ achievements. They weren’t just decoration—they were propaganda machines. The pharaoh was like: “Let me build a 20-foot tall column just to brag about defeating the Nubians.” 3. Some Columns Had Giant Cow Faces In temples dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love, joy, and music, you’d find columns topped with her face. Imagine a stone column with a smiling cow-faced goddess staring at you from all sides. Kinda cute… kinda intimidating. 4. The Hypostyle Hall Was a Forest of Stone The Karnak Temple in Luxor has the largest hypostyle hall in the world, with 134 massive columns, some over 20 meters (66 feet) tall! Walking through it feels like being in a stone forest. Some Egyptologists think it was meant to mimic a sacred grove 5. No Two Columns Are Exactly Alike Despite looking symmetrical, many temple columns have unique carvings. Artists left personal marks or made adjustments based on the stone’s flaws. Sometimes they even made mistakes, and just carved over them. 6. Some Columns Were Painted in Wild Colors Today we see dusty sandstone, but back then, columns were painted in bright reds, blues, greens, and gold. The temples were a riot of color, especially in sunlight. Some fragments of this paint still survive today.

The BRUTAL Truth About Living on a Sailboat Full-Time ⛵ Everyone dreams of sailing into the sunset, but nobody talks about the toilet clogging at 2 AM or your fridge being smaller than a shoebox. I'm planning to live full-time on a sailboat, and here's what no one tells you until it's too late. THE DREAM vs. THE REALITY We all got into sailing for the same reasons - freedom, exploration, Monday morning swims instead of commutes, kiteboarding in paradise, and living in places that would normally cost thousands to visit. And yes, some of that is absolutely true. But there's a lot that gets in the way of that Instagram-perfect sailing life. What I cover in this brutal reality check: 🏠 Tiny living spaces - Your entire world becomes smaller than most bedrooms 🔧 Everything breaks constantly - Toilets, tables, sails, hull... EVERYTHING 🌩️ Weather controls your life - 95% of the time you're avoiding storms, not chasing sunsets 💪 Physical exhaustion - Hoisting sails, anchors, and balancing on a moving platform 24/7 🐟 Hunting your own food - Spear fishing beats grocery stores, but you're doing the work 📡 Internet nightmare - Even Starlink fails when you need it most 💸 Costs spiral out of control - Repairs, haul-outs, marina fees, gear, insurance... it adds up FAST 🧠 Mental challenges - Ocean crossings can take 50+ days of isolation THE HARD TRUTH ABOUT MONEY: Even if you budget perfectly, you'll spend way more than planned. I break down the real costs that sailing YouTubers don't want to talk about - because the reality is much more expensive than the dream. SO WHY DO IT ANYWAY? Because despite all the challenges, breakdowns, and exhaustion, it's still worth it for the freedom. Monday morning swims instead of office commutes. Fixing something meaningful instead of pushing paperwork. The exploration, the experience, the lifestyle that's completely different from anything on land. It's not perfect, but it's real. And that's exactly why this dream is worth chasing. What you'll learn: ✅ The real daily challenges of liveaboard life ✅ Why everything costs more than you think ✅ The physical and mental demands nobody mentions ✅ How weather actually controls your entire existence ✅ Why I'm still pursuing this lifestyle despite the challenges ✅ The mindset you need to handle ocean living My Journey: I'm documenting my entire path from no money, no sailing experience, and no boat to living full-time on the ocean. This isn't about selling you a fantasy - it's about showing you the complete picture so you can make an informed decision about whether this lifestyle is really for you. If you're considering a life at sea, this video will either scare you away (which might be a good thing) or prepare you for what's actually in store. Either way, you'll know what you're getting into. Chapters: 0:00 The Harsh Reality Hook 0:23 Why We Dream of Sailing 0:52 The Real Challenges Begin 1:04 Tiny Living Nightmare 1:18 Everything Breaks (Seriously, Everything) 1:35 Weather Rules Your Life 1:46 Physical Exhaustion Reality 2:01 Food = Work 2:06 Internet Struggles 2:31 The Money Drain 2:51 Mental Health Challenges 3:17 So Why Do It Anyway? 3:26 The Freedom Factor 3:50 It's Worth It 3:58 Subscribe for the Journey #SailingReality #LiveaboardLife #SailingTruth #BoatLife #SailingChallenges #OceanLiving #SailingDream #BoatLiving #SailingLifestyle #MarineLife #SailingJourney #FullTimeSailing #SailingVlog #BoatLifeReality #SailingCommunity This is the reality check I wish someone had given me before I started planning my sailing life. It's not meant to discourage you - it's meant to prepare you. Because when you know what's coming, you can actually succeed at this incredible lifestyle. Everyone dreams of sailing into the sunset, but nobody talks about the toilet clogging at 2 a.m. This video shares the honest truth about the reality of the sailing lifestyle. I'm planning to live full-time on a sailboat, and I want to share what no one tells you until it's too late, including challenges with the mini fridge and being caught on camera during storms.

Penobscot Bay Maine best sailing anchorages exceeded our expectations! Maine boasts more than 4,600 islands, each with its own mystery, its own story. The question was which ones we’d have time to explore. With the help of the Cruising Club of America website and the Waterway Guide, we set our course. Rockland Hurricane Island Vinalhaven Pulpit Island The Barreds TIMELINE: 0:00 Introduction 0:30 Rockland Maine - Marina, Primo, Claws, Landings, Hamilton Marine 2:35 Hurricane Island Maine - Sea Scallop Research Farming, Granite Company Trails 6:47 Vinalhaven & Pulpit Island Maine - tranquility & lobsters! 10:10 Barred Islands Preserve Maine Rockland, called the biggest little city in Penobscot Bay, was a wonderful place to hide from the rain and fog. There were plenty of spots in the anchorage, but we took advantage of the marina slip we could get to wash the boat and make it easier to spend a little time ashore. https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/rockland/ With twelve-foot tides pulling the shoreline back and forth, even stepping ashore felt like an adventure. For dinner we had quite the 5 star experience at Primo, a farm to table restaurant where they grow all the food and livestock with their staff of 60. Their 5 acre compound includes the restaurant, 2 greenhouses, over 200 laying chickens, 150 broiler chickens, 5 ducks, 15 pigs and 3 acres of vegetables. https://www.primorestaurant.com/ The next night, Landings offered laid-back dining with waves lapping just below us. " http://www.thelandingsrestaurant.com/ Last but not least, And finally — Claws. The holy grail of lobster & seafood shacks. Fresh. Locally sourced. Pure Maine Fun. https://clawsrocklandmaine.com/ Strolling through town was alive with energy. And of course, we made several trips to the Hamilton Marine store, for a cornucopia of boating supplies. https://hamiltonmarine.com/ Next up: Hurricane Island, where we toured the scallop experimental research facility, and hiked the islands historic trails. Hurricane Island was formerly the site of a Granite Company supporting hundreds of residents, then in the 1960s, an Outward Bound School, and now home to Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, who conduct marine and island ecology summer courses and research. The breathtaking island trails led to rock ledges, granite cliffs, old settlement housing and panoramic views - even in the fog. Pick up a Maine Island Trail Association guide at the island’s north end facility. https://mita.org/trail/ https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/hurricane-island/ On Vinalhaven and Pulpit Islands, we enjoyed wonderful Maine scenery, tranquility and of course lobsters. Long Cove is the safest anchorage, but you can use the day anchorages to explore these large islands. The Barred Islands Preserve were next, sandwiched in between Butter Island and Great Spruce Island. These gorgeous tiny islands were interesting to explore by dinghy, only occasionally seeing a summer house now and then - often at the highest point on the island for the most expansive views. “Pristine, private with a gentle sea breeze wafting through the anchorage, these islands are co-managed with the Nature Conservancy” https://guides.cruisingclub.org/harbor/barred-islands/ Although many people continue “down east” up to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island, we did not. With the extensive fog and rain in 2023, the upcoming September wedding of my son, and plenty of places still to see on our journey south, we decided to head back. Our Next stops were Matinicus and Monhegan Islands. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCssGSdO6MiHtsHl7qdKlvmA https://www.youtube.com/channel/waterwayguide3670 https://www.youtube.com/channel/hurricane_island https://www.youtube.com/channel/maineislandtrail Audiio - KapKapMoode - Whispers-of-Change Audiio - James Spaite - Riverside - LadiesTobacco Audiio - Tambala - Extra Mild Cheddar Audiio - Daniel Jorgensen - On Sounded Sea - Above Us LINKS: SUBSCRIBE TO CHANNEL: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfh_pM48xnJ7dr4jTvt8cw?sub_confirmation=1 SUBSCRIBE TO EMAIL NEWSLETTER: https://bluedotvoyages.com/contact-us/ READ SAILING LOGS ON OUR WEB SITE: https://bluedotvoyages.com FACEBOOK: https://facebook.com/bluedotvoyages.sailingpilar INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/bluedotvoyages.sailingpilar COMPLETE PLAYLIST: SAILING & CRUISING VIDEOS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz8Z8h1MloaPq2o05r6wnJqaqyeABUKiu CATAMARAN MAINTENANCE VIDEOS: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz8Z8h1MloaOcpGajnaH0DPm1U0otTJtc Blue Dot Voyages is a Sailing Adventure Company. We’re at the beautiful Dana Point Yacht Club for the 27th annual Richard Henry Dana Charity Regatta… a weekend that blends serious sailing with serious heart. This weekend isn’t just about fast boats… It’s about giving back. All the excitement you’ll see out on the water helps support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, a fantastic local group helping kids thrive both on and off the coast. So, hoist your sails… Grab your deck shoes, and join me as we dive into the action… chase the races… and soak up everything that makes this regatta such a highlight of the West Coast sailing calendar. Let’s go racing! Ti sei mai chiesto com'è una vacanza in barca a vela alle Isole Eolie? In questo video ti porto con me in un’avventura di 7 giorni in Sicilia, tra le isole vulcaniche di Lipari, Vulcano, Salina e Filicudi.
