2023 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 European Championships | Day 1

Watch the highlights from the first race day of the 2023 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 European Championships in Vilamoura. We started with sunny skies and very light wind, with an average of 6 knots, which increased as the day progressed. The wait for wind was longer than expected and sailing did not begin until later in the day. In the 49erFX two races were completed today. In the top position with two points is the Italian team formed by Jana Germani and Giorgia Bertuzzi. In second place is the Danish team with Josephine Nojgaard and Esther Bojsen-Moller with 6 points. In tie with the second team are the French formed by Sarah Steyaert and Charline Picon with 6 points. In the Nacra class only one race was completed. In the top place is the British team formed by John Gimson and Anna Burnet. In second place is the Italian team formed by Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei and in third place is the Australian team formed by Ruben and Rita Booth. In the 49er class the wind died down towards the late afternoon and only one race was completed. In first place in fleet 1 is the Spanish team formed by Martin and Jaime Wizner. In first place in fleet 2 is the New Zealand team formed by Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie. In fleet 3 the Swiss team formed by Sebastien Schneiter and Arno de Planta are first. It is still very early in the championship and many races and challenges still lie ahead however, the excitement is set for a thrilling and adrenaline filled week.
