During the COVID shut down our sailboat was boarded by some land pirates who decided to force the catamaran's door open, party like rockstars and then made off with a bunch of stuff, but not before using all the heads on dry tanks. In today’s podcast episode we’ll share what happened as our boat was waiting to complete commissioning, how it all is getting resolved and our crash course on marine security systems. In this episode I came to Louisburg (on Cape Breton island)... I drove along the main road of this little town and checked out the waterfront as well as community fishing facilities, then I went on to visit the Louisburg fortress which was futher away, outside this town... =========================================== ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5  type guy anymore.  I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of videos about boats and sailing on youtube and got myself registered with dozen boat related forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons.  Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Because of this Corona virus situation in the world It is just put on hold... When we visited Rotoroa Island, we saw the 'Flying is overrated' sign with the weka bird and we couldn't agree more. Although flying has given us the opportunity to travel to many destinations, since moving on board Tāiko, our world has really opened up. Tāiko has enabled us to see many of the pest free islands in New Zealand and has allowed us to stay off-grid in many beautiful anchorages. Places we would never have been able to see due to cost or time constraints. She has given us the freedom to explore and filled our lives with adventure. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters.

Had a great birthday here in Grenada at anchor in Prickly Bay. Plenty yachties around to help celebrate and deliberate about the ageing process! Plenty boat work done. You will have to watch to near the end for short term sailing plans.

We arrive at our anchorage for the night, Limin Kayio Porto Kagio Greece. We take our dingy around and drive into all the caves. Seeing all the castles around the port and exploring inside an ancient church. Austin dives for the anchor. Porto Kagio or Porto Káyio is a seaside village in the East Mani municipality on the eastern side of the Mani Peninsula, Greece. It faces a small bay off the Laconian Gulf and is about three miles north of Cape Matapan, the southernmost tip of the Mani Peninsula and of mainland Greece. @austinbayly1765
