What have we done to our poor little Sailboat? After two years of boat renovations, learning how to sail a boat and heading off on our crossing of the Bay of Biscay, we find ourselves in a bit of trouble in Spain... In the last episode you saw us sailing from Gijon, heading for A Coruna, North West Spain. We'd completed our Bay of Biscay Crossing the episode before than. But, disaster struck Indiana... Our engine or prop shaft started making a horrible screeching noise! Not knowing whether continuing would do irreparable damage to our sailboat, or sink it!!, we decided to turn off the motor and call a PAN-PAN for a rescue tow. What began has a pleasant trip with perfect conditions, soon ended in disaster… As we have come to find out, sailing never quite goes to plan! Anyway, we made it safely to A Coruna Marina, by what when wrong? It's time to start investigating! Happy New Year!!! I know, it posted a little late. But better late than never. In this episode hiked all over Lee Stocking Island in the Exumas on our Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran, finding another place to call one of our favorites. The scenery is once again spectacular, breathtaking. And Adrienne gets slapped in the face by a wave. (She's laughing about it now.) Keep a look out for it. Provisioning in the islands is definitely not the same as in the US. Grocery stores are small, and very few are plentiful, which makes luxury items especially hard to get. And if you can get them, they are ridiculously expensive. Would you pay $7 for an avocado? How about $10 for a package of Romain lettuce? So, when we do find such things and they happen to be reasonably priced, we stock up. Then we hide them. It keeps us in check, reminding us that these items are special. Find out what we hide and where we hide it. Jeff hates flying bugs. Flying bugs and snakes. And while there are very few snakes here in The Bahamas, if any, there are these giant moths that hang around. Jeff calls them Bat Moths. I don't know why. They don't look anything like bats. Nonetheless, they scare the hell out of him. Watch him scream like a little kid when one lands on his salad. If you'll remember, we added two new solar panels before we left. They are called "bifacial" panels in that they harvest energy from the suns reflection off the water or the deck underneath the panel. Thanks go out to Andre and his team from Gulf Nautical and Steven and his team from The Yacht Rigger. We are raking in the sunshine! And we ring in 2022 with a beautiful beach bonfire complete with Trentadue Rose Champagne (link below), Kristi's homemade toffee, my gluten free onion rings, and great friends. Happy New Year everyone! https://gulfnautical.com http://theyachtrigger.com https://trentadue.com
In an impossibly close victory, Anglo-French duo Luke Berry and Antoine Joubert celebrate their win in the Ocean Fifty class of the Rolex Fastnet Race. Their yacht, Le Rire Medecin Lamotte, managed to edge past Viabilis, sailed by Pierre Quiroga and Justin Baradat, in a fierce offshore match race that lasted all the way to Cherbourg. The pair of Berry and Joubert carved their way into a lead of a mere 1 minute and 26 seconds before crossing the finish line, proving that every second counts in this elite race.⏱️ Their winning strategy, a blend of deft positioning, skillful sail-trimming, and Antoine's masterful helm work, carried the day. #RolexFastnetRace #OceanFifty 📸 RORC / Rolex
