This week we want to wish all of you a safe and happy new year. Thank you so much for your support and viewership. It has meant a lot to us and we enjoy making content that we enjoy. I hope you enjoy our little story. I didn't create this and found it on the internet and changed a couple of things to make it a bit more personal but 99% of it was from someone else. Here is the story. TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS and all through the boat, The bilge pumps were hustling to keep us afloat, The squids were nestled all snug in their berths, As Deb read Bob Bitchin and I guzzled rum, She said “You've had enough, that stuff makes you dumb.” Then out on the dock there arose an uproar As I reached in the bar to get just one more. So up went my head out of the hatch. Though I should have thought first to undo the latch. I saw stars for a moment, and as quick as a blink My wife yelled, "See, you've had too much to drink!" The moon on the water lit the anchorage up bright Which was good, since the kids had lost my flashlight. Then what with my wondering eyes should I see, But a fat, fuzzy old guy in a Bayliner Capri. Instead of an outboard hung on the rear, Tied to the bow were eight tiny reindeer. More rapid than wind, these coursers they flew, And on each of their hoofs was a Topsider shoe. With crashing and bashing and banging and knocking, I knew in an instant they must be docking, “No Dasher! Hold it, Dancer! Damn you Prancer and Vixen. Stop, Comet! Grab a line, Cupid! Get bumpers, Doneer and Blitzen! Look out for that boat! Watch that seawall! Now fend off, fend off, fend off all!” He was dressed in a red cap ringed with fur trim Along with a Speedo that covered just a the bits of him. I was shocked and astonished. What could I say? I also go sailing dressed exactly that way. He then grabbed a bag, a bulging huge sack, And hoisted it up onto his back, He also had sponges and a mop in his grip, As he waddled his way o'er to my slip. He said “My name’s Nick, and my friend, I can tell That your gel coat needs buffing and your teak looks like hell. Your vinyl needs cleaning, your lockers arranging, Your holding tank pumping, and your oil a-changing, You've put these jobs off for too long and you know it. So here's all that you need. So after a couple of months of not posting we finally got around to putting all of the footage together for our solar project. November was a tough month for us as we had to make trips to Puerto Rico for my father's pacemaker surgery and two weeks later again to see our family for my mother-in law's birthday, my parents anniversary and thanksgiving after been away from family due to covid for almost two years. So as you can imagine not much got done. That said during December we took time to keep moving our sailboat restoration forward so we piece time together to get the solar project done. As always everything takes longer than expected when you are working with a boat. We build our new tray to hold our solar panels. A Big Thank You! To Tristen from JSD Welding and Fabrication. Great guy helped me get this project started the right way. From there we install, tested and wire our panels. We installed our new Victron Charge Controllers, Victron Lynx Distribution Box, and Fullriver Batteries On this video we cover everything through getting the wires inside the boat. We wanted to keep it under 15 minutes so Part 2 Video will cover the new battery setup and setup for all charge controllers and wiring inside the boat. There will also be a possible third video (depends if it does not make it into Part 2) where we share a complete diagram of the components and setup of our solar array. There’s always a boat project or maintenance and repairs to be done. In this episode I commissioned my Twin Crusader 350 motors and tightened the alternator belt. I then made a new sunbrella canvas. This was my first time working on a canvas enclosure aside from previously repairing some stitching. It is not a step by step how to video, just a blog of how I made my person effort at completing the job. The rest of the helm enclosure will hopefully be replaced as the season goes on.
