We finally have had enough waiting to get around the Peloponnese due to weather issues and with the Corinth Canal opening up from its winter closure, we being to head that way. First stop is the small island of Dokos a few hours sail from Porto Cheli, at this anchorage we have one of the best sleeps so far on the boat and the water was so flat calm is was heaven. The next day we reluctantly pull up the anchor and head of to one of the main towns in the Saronic Gulf, Poros! Day 0 Daily Highlight | Youth Sailing World Championships – Vilamoura Day 0 is all about final preparations ahead of the first day of racing. Event hosts Lourenço and Luisa take us around the boat park and Vilamoura Marina, where sailors were out on the water today for their practice races. We also go behind the scenes to see how the event comes together—from the livestream setup and broadcast van to hearing from the team running the championship. We learn how the tracking system works, with tracking available for every class, every day. Even when a class isn’t live streamed, fans, coaches, and sailors can still follow the racing and later analyze performance and data. Racing gets underway tomorrow, with a slightly delayed start due to the wind. The first warning signal is expected around 13:00, so tune into the live stream from about 12:45. ► We already encountered BlueNav at the La Rochelle boat show, but we saw them again at Metstrade, this time with not one, but two new products designed to consolidate their electric propulsion ecosystem: the BlueNav app and the Precision+ GPS. ► The app now allows for more precise control in the 0-5 knot range, where most close-quarter maneuvers take place. Hugo, whom we met at the booth, describes a system capable of maintaining a chosen position and moving the boat in increments of about twenty centimeters (8 inches). This virtual anchoring mode opens up interesting possibilities for approaches from the bow or stern of a multihull, or in areas where lateral movement has to remain very precise. ► GPS Precision+ is the other new product. This multi-constellation GNSS receiver (Galileo, GPS, Glonass) aims to stabilize the course and position during slow maneuvers, where generic GPS devices struggle to provide a clear signal. Its compact size (16 cm / 6.3 in., approx. 600 g / 1.3 lbs) makes it easy to integrate, while improving the quality of the data sent to the control system.
