Navigating our way through the East River in New York City, sailing to Atlantic City and going over on our side!

We had a number of projects to do on Intention in the winter of 2022. A few of them, like painting the bottom, replacing the zinc anodes, replacing our propeller shaft seal, and replacing PVC fittings below the waterline all required that the boat be out of the water. We scheduled a haulout with our marina's boatyard, and in this video we will share our experience. Okay - full disclosure: this video was promised a long, LONG time ago. Life got in the way, kind of like how it did with our sailing plans in general. But hopefully we will be back on track with more regular posts moving forward. Hatchet Bay and Sweeting’s Seahorse Pond, Eleuthera, Bahamas Join our Patreon.com/svfreya crew! The reason for hiding out in Hatchet Bay was to have a safe and comfortable harbor for the windstorm that was predicted. Inside the bay was calm, but of course, QP wanted to go back out to snorkel where we found the cave the day before the storm. I took her out, which only lasted a few minutes. The wind and waves were much stronger and bigger than inside the bay! OK then let's just explore around the bay. The next day, we hiked to Sweeting's Pond with Mike Pierce and the crew of SV Magic, so QP could find some seahorses. This was her first time to see them in nature! We saw several Seahorses, but the wind made the water cloudy, and, in the waves, I couldn't hold the GoPro steady. See the videos. After 4 miles of hiking and an hour of snorkeling, we stopped at Emett's for a cheeseburger and made plans for a Chinese meal on Freya in the evening. We planned on leaving for the Glass Window early the next morning. Hope to see you there!

Episode 042 We continue with our practicing of our man overboard drill. In the last video, we practiced retrieving the dan buoy under sail and engine, together and single-handed as well as our hoving to. In this video, we we practice the recovery phase but not before moving to another beautiful anchorage in the Bay of Islands. Adam had made a 6:1 block and tackle system which is meant to lift our dinghy (tender), Tītī from the water to the deck, but we found it was also helpful in lifting him from the water. As we choose to keep Tāiko our sailboat simple, we have no electric winches on board, so finding ways to make some difficult tasks easier is essential. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. If consistency is a hallmark of success it could be reasonably be argued that the Rockwool Denmark SailGP team deserved to win the final of the SailGP Sydney event. A scorecard of 2,3,2,4,4 to take top place entering today’s final of the Sydney event was an unmatched set of results for the weekend. Despite leading much of the final race, it wasn’t to be for the Danes, with the Australian’s securing the win, after a very well judged ‘slam dunk’ tack on the approach to the last top mark. But, deservedly, Rockwool Demark has cemented itself in the top three for the season, along with Australia and New Zealand, going into the next event at Christchurch.
