With a dream to sail the Atlantic one day, Maryanne (Scotland) met Kyle (USA) in 2002 and setting abut turning her dream into reality. They kicked their adventures on a 25 foot monohull on Lake Eerie and 19 years later they have not only crossed together but have also crossed the Pacific 5 times and have spent the last decade as live aboard cruisers. They share the tales of their travels including the strangest Customs border clearance ever experienced, in a tiny coastal town in Ireland. They also share the sad story of the loss of their brand new catamaran in a storm, when a lee shore anchorage pushed them aground on the coast of Italy and the stress of flying home to the USA to find a replacement yacht and decided to restart their adventures on an 2001 Fountaine-Pajot Athena 38 named Begonia, which they live on today. Pete Myers is chair, founder and chief scientist of Environmental Health Sciences, a not-for-profit organization that promotes public understanding in scientific research on environmental and human health. He holds a PhD in biological sciences from UC Berkeley. For a dozen years, beginning in 1990, Dr. Myers was director of the W. Alton Jones Foundation in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also co-authored Our Stolen Future (1996), a book that explores the scientific basis for concern about how contamination threatens fetal development. Pete is actively involved in research on the impacts of endocrine disruption on human health and is an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. Over the last few years he has received the first “Champion of Environmental Health Research” award from the U.S. National Institutes of Health; and the Laureate Award for Outstanding Public Service from The Endocrine Society. Poi abbiamo scoperto che il pre filtro di gasolio era pieno di melma (non passava il carburante) determinata dai batteri del gasolio, che si nutrono del carburante e infestano tutto il circuito. In poche parole siamo stati attaccati dal nemico. Anche se con difficoltà il cammino continua.

Sailing Catamaran Escape - Cruising the Queensland Coast - Episode 64 After coming down from the hardstand at Boatworks in Coommera we take a work berth. We finish the window installation, change the LED in the tachometer to regain the hours. Another job we had put off for some time was sorting out the diesel bug in the fuel tanks.Lots of filter changes and even using our home made polishing system didn't fix the problem. Boatworks were very helpful in providing large empty tanks to flush out all the contaminated fuel before treating with ' Fuel Doctor' and fresh diesel. We then had a few days break on The Broadwater. When we wanted to continue our trip and head north one of the motors had no propulsion. We had to motor to Manly Marina in Brisbane and take the Cone Clutch out and upgrade it. Hopefully after this we hope this is an end to the major boat jobs for some time, so we can enjoy cruising up the coast!

⁠ @sailingkasada finally leaves Marathon, Florida & sails across the Gulf Stream into Bimini, Bahamas

A big thank you to Hamish Wall and the tagenergy Renewable Energy Cup for inviting us back to cover their annual regatta for the fourth time. The sun shone and while the wind didn’t really oblige, the fun and camaraderie on and off the water was as vibrant as ever. The Middle Harbour Yacht Club hosted the event with David Staley running the racing – a record breaking 47 yachts entered this year - which extended from Balmoral to Clark Island where the race was shortened in order to get everyone back to the club for the celebrations and presentations It’s a regatta that supports a cause that has close links to renewable energy, raising funds for the Australian Marine Conservation Society each year. It’s also a great opportunity for us to catch up on what’s happening in this extremely busy and very friendly industry.

Took a long walk and tried to get up to Rocky Ridge trail but the trail was covered in snow so i will wait for it to melt a bit before I head back there.. Also caught a couple baby eagles having a sea lion lunch on the beach.
