On this day we enjoyed a ferry ride from Halifax to Dartmouth and back... Having a good time is what matters and what life is all about... The Halifax–Dartmouth Ferry is the oldest saltwater ferry in North America,[1] and the second oldest in the world (after the Mersey Ferry linking Liverpool and Birkenhead). Today the service is operated by Halifax Transit and links Downtown Halifax with two locations, Alderney Landing and Woodside, in Dartmouth, NS. The first ferry service in the region was put in place by the founder of Halifax Edward Cornwallis, who used the ferry service to move raw materials and people from a sawmill located on the Dartmouth side of the harbour. During this time there was no official service and it was not until 1752, after a council meeting, that the first ferry charter was issued to John Connor[2] This began the official ferry service between Halifax and Dartmouth. At this time regulations stated that the boats would be run from sunrise until sunset through weekdays with a fare of three pence. In these early stages there was no schedule. Patrons would simply walk down to the pier and be taken across as needed. Connor operated the ferry for only one year and after his departure the operation of the ferry changed hands twice more before 1786. ===================== ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5  type guy anymore.  I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience  that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of videos about boats and sailing on youtube and got myself registered with dozen boat related forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Originally built to charter in Auckland, New Zealand ... but after discovering the beautiful Whitsundays she crossed the ditch and made a home for herself in Airlie Beach. Now Wings II has made a name for herself doing scheduled tours around the Whitsunday Islands departing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Wings II was my first multihull and that is the beginning of the story. They say once you have sailed a multihull there's no going back. I've cruised and raced a variety of dinghies , skiffs, nacra cats and cruising multihulls; including being part of the winning multihull crew in the first multihull event at Hamilton Island. Racing aside, the reason I love multihulls is the stability of the boat when at anchor. A large part of your time on any cruise or charter is spent at anchor. Multihulls have large deck space and Wings II is no lightweight here either with over 125 sq/m of deck space there's enough room to get lost. Angelo Lavranos is a great boat designer and Wings II is a great social boat with an open helm area and large foredeck and open aft deck / Weber BBQ area. I think of this boat as the great entertainer and she's my favourite boat for an afternoon sail on the bay with a large or small group of friends ... This boat is the entertainer! Wings 2 Boat Layout The aft sundeck of Wings II carries the toys, a clear bottom tandem kayak and a few paddle boards, perfect for an afternoon of simply messing about on boats! Inboard from there we have refrigerated drink storage and space to get ready for your water activities or just chill out in the evening watching the fish and dolphins play in the boats underwater blue lights. Inside we go and we have the Wings II saloon area with 3 separate seating areas and the galley, all fully air conditioned. Chilled, filtered water is available from the galley and 2 flat screen tv's allow the crew to show you the various corals and reef fish you may see while snorkelling the beautiful Whitsunday reef. Wings II can carry up to 40 people just for the day when sailing in the bay or 29 people overnight but give her a little breeze and she's great fun to sail. SKILLET CHICKEN AND ACORN SQUASH 2 tablespoons avocado or coconut oil 6 chicken drumsticks 2 medium acorn squash 3 cups arugula 6 chicken drumsticks 2 medium acorn squash 3 cups arugula 1 lemon salt and pepper Place 1 tablespoon oil on the skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Add the chicken drumsticks and cook for about 10 minutes on each side. While the chicken is cooking, slice or cube the acorn squash. When the chicken is about 80% cooked through, set aside, and add another tablespoon of oil to the skillet. Cook the squash for about 5 minutes, flipping halfway through. Add the chicken back into the skillet and season to taste. Place a lid on the skillet and cook for 15 minutes or until the chicken is completely cooked. Add in the arugula and squeeze lemon over the entire dish.

To take this blower motor out and remove the motor from the housing we used a t-20 and t-25, and to remove the new motor we bought from the housing just a screwdriver. Testing of the unit we just looked for 12 volts, but once we had the motor out, all the black carbon left on my hands, it was clear the brushes in the motor were gone. When installing the motor we did test it before taking the time to put it all together by just plugging in the wires. The install went quite well, if you are older like me, there may be drink breaks, but if you have a youthful kid just outsource it to them. Travelling during the current pandemic, 2019 and still going, is not as easy as it used to be. Visa on arrival has stopped in most countries. In order to visit those countries, a special visa is usually required, along with doing quarantine stay. But at least some travelling is still doable and hopefully everything will bet better soon. And for aviation maintenance specialists like us, it is something exotic and exciting to haul out SV Alegria III, our Hanse Yacht 445 for the 1st time ! . Excitement on our daughter's side who expects a free merry-go-round ride, and on our side maybe a bit of fear to see our 45 feet hull floating at 8 feet above sea-level. This video is Day 1 of a great upgrade we did to have an eco-friendly silicon coating on our hull. Because Ocean matters! Did you know that we were Official Partners of Big Blue Ocean Clean Up. We will make a difference for our planet and to save our oceans even if it costs us an arm (maybe two arms in this case...) . But back to the story, we chose the dry docks of Marina di Ragusa in Sicily to carry out the works and try to enjoy the local life in this friendly Marina while doing so :-). See what it is like to manoeuvre into the docks at the dry docks of Marina di Ragusa and lift your sailboat out with the team of CMR 'Cantiere Navale'. We share our full experience of the day and our surprise to see the hull condition after over a year without cleaning (yes, a bit gross!). Women sailors were invited to sail on eight J/105 sailboats on San Francisco Bay. Hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club on May 22nd, 2022, the eight women skippers enjoyed gorgeous, classic sailing conditions on the Bay. Three fun, quick races were sailed with an award ceremony held afterwards in St Francis YC.

Pete Myers is chair, founder and chief scientist of Environmental Health Sciences, a not-for-profit organization that promotes public understanding in scientific research on environmental and human health. He holds a PhD in biological sciences from UC Berkeley. For a dozen years, beginning in 1990, Dr. Myers was director of the W. Alton Jones Foundation in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also co-authored Our Stolen Future (1996), a book that explores the scientific basis for concern about how contamination threatens fetal development. Pete is actively involved in research on the impacts of endocrine disruption on human health and is an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. Over the last few years he has received the first “Champion of Environmental Health Research” award from the U.S. National Institutes of Health; and the Laureate Award for Outstanding Public Service from The Endocrine Society. Enjoy this video of our winter maintenance programme of the fleets in the Saronic Gulf, Kefalonia and the Cyclades. This is just a snapshot and the team are hard at work the moment getting ready for the first flotilla on the 15th April. In more detail our maintenance programme is comprehensive from careful servicing of engines, transmissions, and outboards along with items like the steering systems, winches and electric windlass, to servicing the toilets and plumbing systems. We also check that all the electronics and instruments are working correctly. All the sails are carefully evaluated by our specialist partners at Quantum Sails and either replaced or serviced. The rigging is also checked by a specialist. It's comprehensive from treating and protecting the keels, right the way to checking the lights, sensors and aerial on the masthead. Loads done today FIrstly we check last nights varnishing. I htink this is coat 2 or 3 now and it's coming in very well. Next we cut the old shrouds off the mast head and also have a look at the masthead in general. We give it a good clean and then realise it was always a bit wonky when we dry fit it onto the mast. Lasty we dry fit the Gaff Jaws onto the gaff to ensure they still fit and to see how they look too. It's all starting coming together!!!
