This episode of Onboard's guide to filing your I-765 application online outlines the passport photo submission process. We move Make My Day to the east side in the Bay of Gibraltar to throw out our anchor in La Linea, closer to the Rock. Together with Baby Blue (Caroline & Johan) we visited the Rock with a hired taxi and our own very charismatic guide. There we ventured into the caves, tunnels and to some great lookouts. Of course we saw a lot of monkeys. Finishing with a visit into the Moorish castle and later did some tax-free shopping. There were some big winds coming, so we stayed on board to keep an eye on things. The Mantus anchor held well but the large swell was from the opposite direction as the wind (other than predicted). It made MMD surf and was “a little bit’ annoying. We wanted to go into the harbor but it started blowing 40 knots…. We didn’t dare. We stayed on anchor and our snubber broke a few times, so we didn’t sleep that much. Hermann (our dinghy) went 2 times upside down, with the outboard motor still attached. In this episode we depart Sao Nicolao and sail to the island of Sao Vincente, specifically the port city of Mindelo. While here we take a ferry to explore Santo Antao, and explore this "Island of Mountains" with it's unbelievable cobblestone roads up into the mountains, and precarious stepped slopes for agriculture. This island is the bread and fruit basket of the Cape Verde islands. We prep for the Atlantic crossing, do some engine and mast-head maintenance, provisioning, pickle the water maker, stow away the dinghy, and get the bottom of the boat scrubbed before departure. We wave good bye to our friends on Rapau and Spela, and finally we're at the airport to pick up Steve and Kevin B...our Atlantic crossing crew! Thanks for following! I got a seriously bad bad back. Long story short, I tore a ligament in my lower back and its going to need 6-8 weeks to recover from fully. It happened about 2 weeks ago so i'm on my feet, but sailing, cycling and anything more than walking about are off the menu for another 2 weeks. I should have enough content to keep it coming so don't worry about that and I'm hoping to get back down to the lake in a couple of weeks. De har satt inn en Volvo Penta KAD 43 fra 2005 med et DP290 drev som er fra 2007.Båten gjennomgikk omfattende testing hos Harstad Marina sommeren 2016, og alt fungerte som det skulle. Den sommeren ble det også montert en del nytt utstyr som dieselvarmer, elektrisk toalett, batterilader, trimflaps, og stereo. Båten har også mye praktisk utstyr som baugthruster, varmtvann og landstrøm. Enkel ombordstigning via baugspyd eller badeplattform. Det er passasje rundt båten på begge sider med dollbord og rekker. Inngang til akterdekket på er babord side. Her er det også dusj med kaldt og varmt vann. På styrbord side er benk i akterspeilet som kan felles inn og gir ekstra plass. På motsatt side er det en to-seters benk som er vendt mot kjøreretning. Fremme i cockpit er det sofa med ryggstøtte langs skutesiden og mot kjøreretning. Fra den doble førerposisjonen har du god sikt rundt hele båten og alle kontroller er godt synlig og lett tilgjengelig. Under dekk er det dobbel stikkøye på babord side. Lenger fremme er det pantry med vask, kjøleskap, en enkelt kokeplate som kan gå på strøm eller sprit. Salongen forut omgjøres enkelt til seng ved å legge ned innfyllingspute. På styrbord side er det bad med elektrisk toalett, hånddusj og drenering i baderomsgulvet. This week Kim's parent are here visiting. We take them to the New Bern, NC Christmas parade and to Emerald Isle Beach. To celebrate Matt's big 4-0 we head out on the boat to have a Birthday BBQ at anchor. And we have a seafood feast! It isn't all play and no boat work though. We continue moving our stuff from the holiday trailer onto the boat and quickly realize that our boat doesn't have as much storage space as we thought. We play tourist/tour guides with Kim's parents and visit Santa's Village, the Pepsi store, and downtown. We go to Tryon Palace for the Annual Candlelight Holiday Event where we see musicians in the streets, the grounds lit up by fire light, a magic show, fireworks and much more. Which is exactly why we decided to get out of here and not suffer through another cold winter down south. YAY Overnight Sailing: As night falls, we continue our journey under the cloudy sky, with the loud splashing of the waves and the strong wind ratteling in the sails. Working 3 hour shifts, it is going to be a short and tiring night for both of us. On top of it all, at around 2am the strong wind chafed through the halyard of our foresail, it snapped and we had to safe our foresail and tied it down on the deck in the pitch black battling the strong winds. We were anchored right next to Thunderball Grotto, which was surprisingly not that busy this time. The rest of the day we had fun jumping into the water and the next day, our guests left us. That night we had a pretty unfortunate event. Next, we we did some grocery shopping and went to pick up our new guest, our good old friend Zach. He's back! With the weather being terrible at the moment, i'm confined to the indoors, so we get on with some much needed jobs. Firstly we get Tadpoles name completed properly this time, applying the finishing touch to her. Secondly we test a bilgle pump and a new way to keep my depth sounder at the right angle. Lastly I 3D print a new handle for when "paddle sailing" on the sea. This will be vastly more comfy than before!! In 2023, Martin and Maiken joined by their two kids, Paja and Una, set sails for the big adventure with their boat, Skjoldmøen - www.skjoldmoen.dk. The Danish family of four had worked for years to fulfill their dream of sailing the world for three years. In June 2023, they embarked on the journey of a lifetime and set course for the open seas. It was the culmination of a dream which seemed almost impossible for years, but they made it happen and they are currently sailing under the power of Elvstrøm Sails in French Polynesia.
