'The magic you're looking for is in the work you're avoiding' This hits different when you work on a boat. You try to avoid so much work. You try to not make projects bigger than what they are because everything is always a lot of work already... boatlife i guess... IG: yvonnemarianna.travels

My galley make over has been slowly happening over the last few months, from a brand new kitchen floor to a new table top and a new benchtop. I tiled a mosaic backsplash behind the sink, and for anyone telling me not to tile my boat, hey it looks epic so please be quiet! :) Thank you! But the actual questions: was it a good idea installing a mixer tap in the kitchen? Yes and no! It is great to have hot water, to be able to clean my dishes properly and what not, but on the other hand having a proper tap means I use a lot more water! And on a boat fresh water is sacred. I don't have a water maker. I am very aware of how much water I use, but if I have guest over and they turn the tap on and the water runs, it always gives me an anxious feeling. Switch back to a foot pump and cold water? I don't think so, but I am tempted to install a saltwater pump to rinse off dishes etc... Let me know what you guys would do! IG:yvonnemarianna.travels

A lot has happened on the outside but also a lot of work has happened on the inside. Here is a quick tour of my new v-berth - the master bedroom. I canged it from the two single beds into one queen sized bed, build a little natural wardrobe, painted, got new flooring and installed LED lights. Very cosy! Basil approves :) IG: yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStormy

I can not believe this is the final step on replacing the rotten deck! I've made it! I am so excited, I waited for this day for such a long time. All the hard work, and finally the deck will get finished :) I know I know it's only a small part of the whole boat progress and there is still so much more work that needs to be done, the list is long: new bulwarks, sanding-welding-painting the rail, fiberglass repairs on the main cabin, fixing leaking hatches, installing one new hatch, repainting the whole boat, underwater repairs on the prop shaft once the boat gets lifted again, changing the switchboard for the electronics and so much more. But this huge job, the deck, is finally coming to an END! IG:yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStromy

Lots and lots of car bog and lots of sanding to round the edges to make the fiberglass stick. So here we go, obviously the first batch of bog I mixed up went hard straight away and I only used maybe half of it. I totally underestimated how quick that stuff goes off... Small batches it is :) I am still a bit nervous when I think about the fiberglassing, I have never done it and I really want to do a good job, I want it to neat! Youtube Videos for the win, my homework for the next few days! IG: yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStormy

This was a sticky mess and I didn't like it one bit! Give me sanding for days, dusty work and all, but glue is not for me, everything is stick, you can't touch anything, it makes such a mess, especiall when you're not sure what you're doing.... But hey the plywood is on, on for eternity and I am happy about it. Does it look neat, does it look pretty? - Let's not talk about it. It's going to get covered with fibergalss anyways :) Happy days! Just kidding, the new deck won't be cardboard! But this cardboard template is pretty brilliant, now I can cut out the plywood in the perfect shape and I will know it's going to fit. Two pieces coming together with one seam down the middle. The plywood will get glues down with epoxy glue and lastly covered with fiberglass! Oh hey how do you like the look of the new samson post? This might look simple to some of you, but I had to cut out the plywood twice to make a perfectly snug fitting piece to fit! You learn I guess :) At the moment I'm absolutley loving the boat repairs, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, not much more prep before the new deck goes on! I can't wait. Another new skilled I leanred since I bouth Stormy: caulking Here is a little definition: Caulk, to (Verb) - To make watertight by driving or caulking (usually loose cotton fibres) into a seam, followed by a coarser fibre material such as oakum then stopping with pitch or putty. Caulking (Calking) - Boat cotton, oakum or other fibres driven into planking seams to make them watertight. The oldest form of caulk consisted of fibrous materials driven into the wedge-shaped seams between boards on wooden boats or ships. So this is what I'm doing to the deck :) IG: @yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStormy

The new Samson Post is looking goooood :) I love the days when you can see the progress and today is one of those days. Sanding and painting just makes the biggest difference, oh I can't wait to see the new post on stormy. I might need some advice of you guys: everyone tells me to paint the new samson post (the old one was painted grey) but I really love the timber look. Keep it natural or paint it? What do you think? Today we moved the anchor winch! The winch was still sitting on the part of the deck that needs replacing, so we had to unbolt it and move it to the side to pull up the last bit of rotten wood and keep going with the prep for the new deck, this is the never ending storm, my god :) @yvonnemarianna.travels

And it was another one of those bad news days. After pulling up the deck on the outside we realised that the wood rot got into the samson post right on deck level. After poking a knife into the samson post to determine how far along the wood rot has gone (hoping we could safe the samson post) we quickly realised that it's rotten almost halfway through and it was a hard decision, I do have to admit it took a bit of convincing, I really wanted to save the old post, I really didn't want another project, it's all getting a bit overwhelming lately, like what the hell was I thinking, buying a timber boat... But yeah the boat builder and a few other friends did talk some sense into me, it is probably not the safest idea to moor your boat on a half rotten post. So here we go, winching the old post out to use it as a template to make a new one :) IG: @ yvonnemarianna.travels Patreon: SailingStormy
