After years of cruising the BC Coast with her original owners, it is time for “Fan Tan” to set sail with a new crew for her next adventure. Built in New Westminster, this steel hulled boat was welded by the best in the business and incorporates many design features seen in C&C’s, Brandlemayer and Bob Perry vessels. Constructed with full size panels, Fan Tan was designed with off-shore worthy strength in mind thanks to her custom stringers that run forward to aft. Despite her 30,000lb displacement and 46’ LOA, Fan Tan is surprisingly easy to maneuver and responsive under sail. Down below her custom interior finished in long planked cedar by a BCIT woodworking team has created a warm and cozy cabin with lots of natural light and 6’ standing headroom. Watch the 'hatching' of two duckling dinghies acquired for David and Kristi Aisher's daughters, Sophie and Penny. A short naming and christening ceremony took place on 9th April 2016 at the well-known (and very classic) Elephant Boatyard near the Hamble (UK). Sophie and Penny respectively named their boats, SWALLOW and AMAZON with a splash of Prosecco. In a fluky breeze, David and Sophie launched and sailed 'Amazon' while Kristi and Penny sailed away from the slipway in 'Swallow'. The 9ft Duckling dinghy was designed by renowned yacht designer and sailor Uffa Fox, they were produced in mass by Fairey Marine, on the Hamble in the 1960's. Using the hot-moulded double diagonal technique, a construction method very characteristic of Fairey Marine, they're strong and versatile, featuring a mahogany capping rail and sculling notch in the transom. These two Ducklings join a very impressive lineage of yachts in the Aisher family. They have hatched into, possibly, one of Britain's greatest sailing families – the Aishers – famous for their offshore sailing successes, very closely attached to the Royal Ocean Racing Club; through several generations, they commissioned the build(s) and campaigned the 'Yeoman's from the 1930's onwards. David's grandfather, Sir Owen Aisher, was the Admiral of the Royal Ocean Racing Club and commissioned a succession of world-class yachting campaigns. These two lucky duckling dinghies will join David and Kristi, Sophie and Penny as they cruise on board their gaff cutter yacht, THALIA.
